Chronic pain is a frequent comorbid condition associated with the aftermath of a traumatic brain injury (TBI). As a longtime supporter of research in the area of TBI, Joumana McGowan is familiar with this unfortunate side-effect of an already debilitating condition. Roughly 46% of individuals with a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) suffer from chronic pain for 1 to 30 years following the event of the injury. Management of this pain alone is a difficult process. That’s why in recent research, chronic pain has become a specific area of concern and focus. Researchers and physicians in the field are actively working to determine common causes of such pain, and new treatment plans that can help individuals with TBIs live more comfortably. At the upcoming Chronic Pain and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Live Webinar hosted by Mitch Rosenthal Research, Jeanne Hoffman and Risa Richardson will focus on discussing the most frequently experienced types of pain and the role comorbidities play in an individual with TBI and chronic pain, as well as how pain and treatment can differ based on a variety of extreme phenotypes.
