The genesis of this writing series came out of a discussion of my creative output in general. I was talking about the nature of my projects and my process with a good buddy, and how the various items were developing. He is also a guy with creative impulses and outputs, and he suggested blogging about the development of my individual projects.
In brainstorming about how that might look I looked back to my journals of the last years and an idea for a series of pieces about my experiences of transcendental moments began to concretise. I organised them somewhat chronologically, gave them titles and used images from my sketchbooks, or created some new ones, to help set the scene. Though not exhaustive, I feel these episodes form a representative set that work well together to form one cohesive thing.
The Transcendental Boogie Experience Trove is one of a suite of 20 projects that forms a show called Revision, Consolidation, Expansion. I come from a background in architecture and have never completely ruled out returning to the field in the future. I realise that, in order to achieve that, I need to have an answer to the question “what have you been doing all that time?”. So, I keep moving, keep the pencil sharp, keep thinking about concepts, forms and space, making and creating. Revision, Consolidation, Expansion will be a major part of my portfolio.
This is the end of this particular piece but not the end of writing about my project ideas. There will be more series in the future, I am sure. That is one of the things I discovered in getting this thing out there, ideas can spawn ideas, there could be many tangents to go on, paths to take. The challenge is to tie the thread down, find its essence, its purest expression.
