Sadly, while it sounds like a good idea, decades ago the level of knowledge that people possessed about trans people was minuscule so it doesn't surprise me that your teacher wanted to show you what she felt would be a horrible outcome. All she did was induce childhood trauma. I am glad you have seen there is another better outcome now although trauma remains. 60 years ago I never er even considered saying to anyone how I felt which in and of itself was traumatic.
