I found my own grave

The Girl Who Appeared in Every Photograph

Seventeen-year-old Ayesha found the photograph while helping her grandmother clean the attic.

It was old, faded, and dated 1985.

At first, she almost ignored it.

Then she saw the girl in the corner.

The girl looked exactly like her.

Same face. Same eyes. Same scar above the eyebrow.

Ayesha froze.

She told herself it was a coincidence.

It wasn’t.

A week later, she found another photograph in a local archive.

This one was dated 1972.

Same girl.

Same expression.

Standing in the background like she belonged in every era.

Not older. Not younger. Just… unchanged.

Ayesha didn’t laugh this time.

She started searching.

Every photograph showed the same girl.

Always in the background.

Always watching the camera.

Always seventeen.

No name.

No record.

No trace.

Like she was never supposed to exist… yet refused to disappear.

What started as curiosity turned into obsession.

Ayesha stopped sleeping properly.

She stopped thinking about anything else.

She just followed the girl through time.

Until one rainy afternoon, she found a small wooden box hidden under a broken floorboard in an abandoned house.

Inside was a diary.

Most pages were gone.

Only one entry remained.

Her hands shook as she opened it.

The first line made her stomach drop.

If you are reading this, then you have already seen her.

Ayesha didn’t breathe.

She kept reading.

You think you are searching for her.

But she has been preparing you.

Her grip tightened on the paper.

The handwriting felt… wrong. Too familiar.

As if she had seen it before.

A folded photograph slipped out of the diary.

It was newer than all the others.

Too new.

The date printed at the bottom made her go cold.

2047.

A year that didn’t exist yet.

Inside the photograph, a seventeen-year-old girl stood beside a grave.

The face was hers.

The grave had one name carved into it.

AYESHA KHAN

Her mind refused to accept it.

She turned the photograph over.

Three lines were written on the back.

In her own handwriting.

I thought I was searching for the girl in the photographs.

Then I realized she was never the mystery.

I was.

Ayesha felt the world tilt.

Not fear.

Not shock.

Recognition.

Everything suddenly felt like it had already happened before.

Like she had been here… reading this… more than once.

For months, she had searched for answers.

Now she understood something worse.

The photographs were not clues.

They were instructions.

A map she kept leaving for herself.

A way back to something she kept forgetting on purpose.

Ayesha looked at the photograph again.

Her eyes stopped.

Something she had missed before was now impossible to ignore.

The girl beside the grave wasn’t just standing there.

She was holding a camera.

It was already aimed at her.

Ayesha slowly lowered the photograph.

And for a moment, the silence in the room felt… shared.

Like someone else was breathing it with her.

Behind her.

She didn’t turn around.

Because deep down, she already knew.

The next photograph had not been taken yet.

Moral: Some truths are not found by chasing them, but by facing the parts of ourselves we have been trying to forget
