My JP Morgan Interview Experience: Software Engineer — Java | 2026
Preparing for a Java Software Engineer interview at JP Morgan? Strong Core Java fundamentals are important, but experienced candidates should also be ready for coding challenges, Spring Boot internals, microservices, system design, and real-world production scenarios.
In backend engineering interviews, knowing a concept is only the beginning. Interviewers may want to understand how you apply it under real production conditions, handle failures, maintain data consistency, and design reliable systems.
Based on a shared JP Morgan Java Software Engineer interview experience, here are the key questions organized into four rounds to help candidates prepare for similar opportunities.
Round 1: Core Java, DSA, and Problem-Solving
This round focuses on Java fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and your ability to write efficient code.
1. How does HashMap work internally in Java? Explain collisions and resizing.
Discuss hashing, bucket selection, collision handling, and the role of equals() and hashCode(). Explain how resizing works when the map grows and how heavily populated buckets can use balanced trees in modern Java implementations.
