I'm over 50. I haven't had a job in over a year. I used to be looking for something comparable to what I did in my last position. I'm not now. I ran the numbers and know I can stay retired if I want to, so for me the next job is all about a good fit, flexible terms, and enough pay for the work.

I've learned dozens of new technologies and a whole new language (Chinese) in my previous 28 year career with one company. I can translate between East and West way of doing business without a second thought. I don't get bored. I don't have naturally high energy (never have), so I bring efficiency and reliability instead.

The first thing I tell younger employees when I'm teaching a class..."I have no monopoly on truth or technique. If you know easier/better/cheaper/more reliable and don't share I'll be unhappy". It breaks the ice and lets them know I'm a life long student not just a teacher.

I may work [for pay] again, I may not. It's nice knowing that I can and I'm definitely capable, but I don't have to anymore.
