The Slide
Being homeless makes you tired
I remember sleeping in a Childrens playground
At the top of the slide, there was a little enclosure
That was big enough for me to hide
From any eyes and small enough to protect my skin from the giant winds.
I wrapped myself in myself, as if I had extra arms that could hold me..
My Jacket was as warm as a duvet

My head resting against the wood
For now it was my pillow
I was tired, any rest I could get would make a difference
From the street anyone passing wouldn’t know I was there
And the next morning I rose with purpose
Into a cafe washed up , took the shirt from my bag
A cup of tea and some toast
Off to work ..as I sat on the bus I looked back at the slide in the playground
So insignificant in relation to the environment around it
Yet to me it is a home….
