Sunflower Support Group

2 min readOct 3, 2026

Hello friends! Today is day 4 and let me tell you if you thought smoking slowed time down, it sure isn’t anything close to how slow the days go by when you are sober. I have collectively gotten 15 hours of sleep throughout the whole week, but I am not tired enough to get a full night’s sleep.

Today I decided to join a support group for people getting sober from a variety of substances. I was so happy no one made me feel judged for being addicted to weed. In fact, I wasn’t the only first timer there and we both ended up feeling really welcomed and dove into the support Whats App groups as well.

It is really refreshing to see how many wonderful people are out there fighting the good fight. This group wasn’t a 12 step program where you have to submit to a Higher Power. It was just people being real and being there for each other. I feel like I made ten new friends today.

I am personally struggling watching others in my life abuse substances at the moment. I live in Colorado you would think I could at least stand the smell of it, but it is tempting still. Anyways, I’m sticking with it for myself and for my health.

I came to a realization in group that this did need to happen for me. I’m studying to become a mental health counselor and there was always a nagging feeling I had about my dependence on cannabis. I feel like as a model for mental health, it is now a part of my duty to cut ties with it. Maybe everything happens for a reason and that was it.

I have nothing much else to report except a festering sense of boredom. I am currently adjusting medications with my doctor to try to feel more. My antidepressants have always blunted them, but without the relief of weed it is much more prominent. But alas, we keep at it. Good luck to anyone else on their journey.
