Together with my spouse, I would like to go to my parents’ house for the first time.

“It’s ironic, I’ve married you, but I’ve never set foot in your house. Who knows, you might actually be married or have two children there.” My husband joked.

I just grinned when I heard that.

My husband has never visited my parents’ house in Batam, even when he proposed and married me.

How come? Here’s the story.

My family lives in Batam. However, since I went to college in 2005, I have lived in a boarding house in Bandung, and after graduating, I decided to work here.

In 2012, I met a man named Yoga. This young man was interested and intended to have a serious relationship with me, even though he had only known me for a few months.

Because I didn’t want to only date, I challenged him to talk to my father.

He agreed and then calculated the costs needed to take his parents from Sumedang to my parents’ house in Batam.

The standard Bandung-Batam ticket price is around IDR 1 million per seat. If it is a round trip, it would take IDR 2 million. For 3 people (him and his parents), a total of 6 million is needed. Just for plane tickets!

For him, it was a high cost. Understandably, he works in a small company with minimal benefit. At that time, his father was a seller of ‘kupat tahu’ and chicken porridge. Yep, we’re just ordinary lower middle class.

When telling my parents about him, my mother unexpectedly said,

“There is no need to go to Batam. Let Mama and Papa go to Bandung. God willing, we will go to Bandung for Teh Ratih’s wedding.”

Ratih is my cousin, who lives in Bandung. Many of our extended families are in Bandung.

Why are my parents in Batam? Because my father was placed by his company for service in Batam.

So, the day after Teh Ratih’s wedding, my proposal ceremony took place. We married 4 months later in Garut.

Until now, when our son is almost 8 months old, my husband has never set foot in Batam, where my parents live. Sad huh? Heuheu.

So, if I could fly for free, I would like to meet my parents in Batam, for the first time with my husband.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN BATAM?”

In Batam, I want to take my parents and husband for a walk to the Barelang Bridge, enjoy young coconuts at Melur Beach, and go on a culinary tour. Because it is close to the sea, seafood in Batam is fresher and more varied than in Bandung. It’s seafood feast time!

FLY WITH CITILINK

I want to go to Batam on Friday, July 3, 2015, by flight from Jakarta at 16.00 WIB. Meanwhile, we returned home on Sunday, July 5, at 14.15 WIB from Hang Nadim Airport, Batam.

To order tickets, I chose to order Citilink plane tickets via the Traveloka App. Why Citilink? Because ticket prices are affordable, there are rarely delays, and they are comfortable.

Saturday night, it looks like I’ll be staying at my parents’ house, so they can enjoy playing with their grandchildren. All I want is to spend Saturday night at a hotel so I can go on my honeymoon #cough.

Book a hotel via Traveloka

I chose HARRIS Resort Waterfront because of its location not far from home, on the beach, and one of the most popular hotels in Batam.

Hotel bookings are also done via the Traveloka App. Easy!

TRAVELOKA APP, QUICK & EASY BOOKING TICKETS AND HOTELS!

Ordering plane tickets and hotel bookings via Traveloka is very convenient, even via mobile. With the Traveloka App, I can order tickets and book hotels from anywhere, at any time. You don’t have to open the laptop first. Moreover, my laptop takes a long time to load.

The method is also easy. Just enter the data and follow the instructions. In less than 5 minutes, I had the tickets and hotel I wanted.

It would be nice to be able to go to Batam with my husband. Because this trip would be proof that I have never been married before, let alone had children. LOL.
