2 min readJan 23, 2024

“Adrian Beltre, welcome to Cooperstown.”

Those words capped the announcement that had been a long time coming: Adrian Beltre is a hall of famer.

To the surprise of exactly no one, it was announced tonight that Adrian Beltre has been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York by the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA).

In his first year on the ballot Beltre received 95.1% of the total vote, easily surpassing the 75% needed for induction.

Beltre received the phone call from Jack O’Connell, the Secretary-treasurer of the BBWAA, prior to the 6pm ET announcement, while at his home in California with friends and family present.

On Tuesday morning, Beltre crossed a threshold with his 200th total vote of the 202 known ballots in the public domain thanks to Ryan Thibodaux and his Hall of Fame Tracker. As the morning gave way to afternoon, more public ballots trickled in with the total number dwindling leading up to the announcement itself.

Beltre will talk with the media tonight online, so comments from him are forthcoming. Beltre will be in Cooperstown on Thursday afternoon to talk with the media in person for the first time at the Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will officially take place on Sunday, July 21 in Cooperstown where Beltre will take his proper place among the immortals.

Steve Parkhurst is the author of a forthcoming biography about Adrian Beltre to be released in the fall of 2024.
