Akita Prefecture is one of Japan’s leading regions in terms of food supply capacity.
For example, its food self-sufficiency rate ranks second nationwide, the harvest volume of rice for staple food ranks third, and the growth rate of agricultural output in recent years is among the top in the country.
A high-quality rural area is characterized by being embraced by the rich nature and diverse culture that have been passed down through generations, which is the essence of Akita. It involves protecting these assets while each resident hones their own skills, cherishes a rich spirit, and supports one another. This environment encourages challenges in creating new industries and cultures, allowing people to live vibrant and fulfilling lives.
Although Akita faces challenges such as population decline and aging, we are nurturing industries that we can proudly present to the world, much like our rice.
