I Made Hermes Agent Delegate Tasks to Multiple Agents
I wanted to see what happens when one AI agent stops doing everything itself and starts coordinating multiple agents. Here’s how to test delegation in Hermes Agent, step by step.
AI agents are becoming more capable, but asking one agent to research a topic, analyze a codebase, write tests, and review the results can become a long process.
What if we split that work between multiple agents?
Instead of asking one agent to do everything sequentially, we can give it several independent tasks and let it coordinate the results.
That’s the idea behind subagent delegation in Hermes Agent.
In this guide, we’ll set up a practical experiment to explore how delegation works, assign three tasks in parallel, collect the results, and verify what the agents actually accomplished.
We’ll use a simple research-and-analysis experiment first, then explore how the same approach can help with software development.
What we’ll build: A parent Hermes Agent that delegates three independent tasks to child agents, collects their findings, and produces a final report.
What You’ll Learn
By the end of this tutorial, you’ll know how to:
- Start Hermes Agent and check its available delegation capabilities.
- Understand the difference between a parent agent and child agents.
- Ask Hermes to split a task into independent workstreams.
- Run multiple tasks in parallel using delegation.
- Collect and combine the results.
- Verify the output instead of blindly trusting the agent.
- Understand the limitations, cost implications, and potential failure modes.
Step 1: Prepare Your Environment
For this experiment, you need a working Hermes Agent installation and access to a configured model provider.
You can run Hermes on a local machine or a cloud VM. A cloud VM is useful if you want a dedicated environment for repeated experiments, but it isn’t a requirement for delegation itself.
Open your terminal and check whether Hermes is available:
hermes --versionNext, run its diagnostic command:
hermes doctorThis helps you identify configuration or environment issues before starting the experiment.
If Hermes is already installed and working, launch it:
hermesYou should now be able to interact with Hermes through its terminal interface.
Important: The commands and interface may vary depending on your installed Hermes version. If a command behaves differently, check the documentation for the version you’re using.
Step 2: Understand How Delegation Works
Before running the experiment, let’s understand the architecture.
A normal interaction might look like this:

Final reportThe parent agent coordinates the work, while the child agents handle their assigned tasks.
Each child receives its own conversation context and works independently. The parent doesn’t automatically share its entire conversation history with every child, so the instructions must contain enough information for each task to make sense.
Hermes supports delegation through its delegate_task tool.
Official reference: Subagent Delegation
Step 3: Choose a Task That Can Be Split
For our first experiment, we’ll investigate open-source AI coding agents.
This is a good starting point because the work can be separated into independent research tasks.
We’ll assign three workstreams:
The parent agent will then combine these findings into a single comparison report.
Each task should have a clearly defined goal and output format.
For this first test, ask agents to prioritize official documentation and repository information. They should explicitly identify claims they cannot verify rather than filling gaps with guesses.
Step 4: Ask Hermes to Delegate the Tasks
Start a Hermes session and paste the following prompt.
Experiment prompt
I want to test your subagent delegation capabilities.
Research the open-source AI coding-agent ecosystem by
splitting the work into three independent tasks.
Task A — Project discovery:
Identify five relevant open-source AI coding-agent
projects. For each project, collect its name, official
repository, purpose, and license if documented.
Task B — Model and integration support:
Investigate model providers, supported integrations,
and important capabilities for the identified projects.
Use official documentation wherever possible.
Task C — Activity and installation:
Investigate installation instructions, recent repository
activity, and the documentation available for the
identified projects.
Instructions:
1. Delegate the three tasks to separate child agents.
2. Run independent tasks in parallel where possible.
3. Give each child a specific goal and enough context.
4. Prefer official repositories and documentation.
5. Include source URLs for important claims.
6. Clearly mark information that could not be verified.
7. Do not invent repositories, features, licenses, or
project activity.
8. Collect the final summary from each child agent.
9. Compare the findings and identify contradictions.
10. Produce a final Markdown report with a comparison
table, findings, source links, and limitations.
Do not claim that a task succeeded unless you have
evidence supporting that conclusion.
Before starting, explain how you plan to divide the work.Hermes should interpret this request, plan the work, and use its delegation capability if available in your current setup.
What to look for: Don’t judge the experiment by the quality of the final prose alone. Check whether Hermes actually delegates tasks, whether the tasks are independent, and whether the returned results contain evidence and useful sources.
If Hermes performs the work in a single session instead, inspect its response and determine whether delegation was available, enabled, and actually used.
Hermes Agent completed the multi-agent delegation workflow. Tasks B and C finished successfully on retry, and I consolidated the results into a final report covering 5 open-source AI coding agents, model integrations, installation methods, project activity, and documentation quality.
The report includes 50+ source URLs, a cross-project comparison table, use-case recommendations, and 8 unverified claims flagged for further review.
Step 5: Inspect the Delegation Behavior
When Hermes delegates tasks, pay attention to how it divides the work.
A useful delegation plan should specify:
- The goal assigned to each child.
- The context provided to each child.
- Which tools or capabilities are available.
- The expected deliverable.
- How the parent will combine and verify the results.
For example, a well-defined research task might look like this:
Goal:
Identify five open-source AI coding agents and verify
their official repositories and licenses.
Context:
This is part of a comparison of AI coding-agent tools.
Use official GitHub repositories and project documentation
as primary sources.
Deliverable:
Return a table containing the project name, repository
URL, license, primary use case, and source links.
Constraints:
Do not guess missing information. Mark anything
that cannot be verified. This is much better than simply asking a child agent to “research AI coding agents.”
The more specific the task, the easier it becomes to assess whether the child completed it correctly.
Hermes Agent identified five open-source AI coding agents: Aider, OpenHands, SWE-agent, Cline, and OpenCode. It collected their repository URLs, licenses, primary use cases, and source links.
The output also flagged two important findings: OpenCode is reported as archived, with Crush as its successor, and SWE-agent maintainers recommend mini-swe-agent. These status claims should be independently verified before publication.
Step 6: Understand the Delegation Tool
Hermes uses a tool called delegate_task for spawning child agents.
The official documentation illustrates a single delegated task using a structure like this:
delegate_task(
goal="Research open-source AI coding agents",
context="Use official repositories and documentation."
)For a parallel batch, the documented interface uses a list of tasks:
delegate_task(tasks=[
{
"goal": "Research project repositories and licenses",
"context": "Use official project sources."
},
{
"goal": "Research model providers and integrations",
"context": "Use official documentation."
},
{
"goal": "Research installation methods and activity",
"context": "Use official repositories and release history."
}
])These snippets illustrate the delegation tool’s interface. They are not standalone shell commands. In normal use, you ask Hermes to perform the delegation, and Hermes invokes the tool through its agent interface.
The exact behavior and supported parameters can depend on the Hermes version and configuration.
Reference: Delegation and Parallel Work
Step 7: Collect the Results
After the child agents finish, the parent needs to combine their findings.
The child agents return final summaries rather than automatically placing every intermediate tool call into the parent’s conversation context.

Ask Hermes to produce a consolidated report:
Combine the results returned by the delegated agents.
For every project:
- Verify that the repository URL is specific and relevant.
- Separate confirmed facts from uncertain information.
- Compare the findings from different agents.
- Identify missing or contradictory evidence.
- Include links to the sources used.
- Do not treat an agent's assertion as independent proof.
Create a comparison table and a short executive summary.
List any claims that require manual verification before
the report can be published. At this point, the parent should be doing more than concatenating three summaries.
It should resolve duplication, identify contradictions, and make clear which claims remain uncertain.
If two agents return different answers about the same project, the parent should investigate the discrepancy or flag it rather than silently choosing one.
Output
╭─ ☤ Hermes ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────╮
Now I have all three verified task outputs. Let me cross-verify and compile the consolidated report.

Consolidated from three parallel subagent tasks (Task A: Discovery, Task B: Models/Integrations/Capabilities, Task C: Installation/Activity/Docs) using official GitHub repositories and documentation only. Generated October 29, 2026.Hermes Agent successfully consolidated and cross-verified the findings from all three delegated tasks into a final report comparing five open-source AI coding agents.
The report includes a master comparison table, model provider support, integrations, capabilities, installation methods, and project activity. It also identified conflicting findings about OpenCode and SWE-agent, clarified their maintenance status in the report, and flagged 8 claims requiring manual verification before publication.
Output: open-source-ai-coding-agents-final-report.md
Step 8: Verify the Final Report
This step matters because delegation doesn’t guarantee correctness.
A child agent can return a confident but incorrect result. The parent can then incorporate that result into a polished report, making the error harder to notice.
Check the final report independently.
Repository verification
Open the official repository for each project and confirm that the URL resolves to the intended project.
License verification
Check the project’s license file or other authoritative licensing information. Don’t assume a project is open source simply because its source code is visible.
Model support verification
Look for provider support in official documentation or configuration examples. Avoid treating a community discussion as proof of an officially supported integration.
Activity verification
Check recent commits, releases, and project-maintainer updates. A repository’s existence alone doesn’t demonstrate active maintenance.
Source verification
For every important claim, ask whether the cited source actually supports the statement.
Finally, ask Hermes to review its own report:
Audit the final report.
Identify:
1. Claims without supporting sources.
2. Incorrect or mismatched repository URLs.
3. Contradictions between sections.
4. Unverified model-support claims.
5. Unsupported license or activity claims.
6. Missing information.
7. Conclusions that go beyond the available evidence.
Return a list of findings and suggested corrections.
Do not claim that external facts are verified unless
you have inspected the supporting sources.Treat this as a second review, not a replacement for checking the evidence yourself.

Claim in Consolidated Report: "OpenHands: Conversations survive container replacement"
Source Status: No source
Notes: Task B Capability Notes cites README.md and architecture.md — neither explicitly confirms session persistence across container replacement.

Claim in Consolidated Report: "SWE-agent: Trajectories + replay"
Source Status: Weak source
Notes: Task B Capability Notes cites swe-agent.com/latest/ and background/aci/ — trajectory replay mentioned but not explicitly verified.
────────────────────────────────────────
Claim in Consolidated Report: "Cline: Checkpoints, Kanban persists"
Source Status: No source

7. Conclusions Beyond Available Evidence
Conclusion: "Best for Local/Offline Models: Aider — First-class Ollama/LM Studio docs"
Evidence Gap: Task B shows all 4 (Aider, Cline, OpenHands, SWE-agent) support Ollama/LM Studio via native or LiteLLM. "First-class docs" is qualitative.
Suggested Correction: Qualify: "Aider has dedicated Ollama/LM Studio documentation pages; others support via LiteLLM/OpenAI-compat."
────────────────────────────────────────
Conclusion: "Best for IDE Integration: Cline — broadest IDE support"
Evidence Gap: Task B shows Cline has VS Code, JetBrains, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, Neovim via ACP. Others have none. Supported.
Suggested Correction: Valid conclusion.
────────────────────────────────────────
Conclusion: "Best for GitHub-Native Workflows: SWE-agent — Purpose-built"
Evidence Gap: Task B shows SWE-agent has native issues→PRs, batch mode. Cline has PR review. OpenHands has GitHub App. Supported.
Suggested Correction: Valid conclusion.
────────────────────────────────────────
Conclusion: "Best for Autonomous/Parallel: Cline — Kanban (worktrees, dependency chains)"
Evidence Gap: Task B shows Cline Kanban with per-card worktrees. OpenHands has multi-backend + ACP. SWE-agent has batch mode. Supported.
Suggested Correction: Valid conclusion.
────────────────────────────────────────
Conclusion: "Best for Extensibility: Cline — SDK, plugins, MCP, custom tools"
Evidence Gap: Task B shows Cline has SDK, MCP, plugins, skills, rules. SWE-agent has tool bundles. OpenCode has custom commands. Supported.
Suggested Correction: Valid conclusion.
────────────────────────────────────────
Conclusion: "4/5 projects actively maintained"
Evidence Gap: Task C: Aider (active), OpenHands (active), SWE-agent (maintenance), Cline (active), OpenCode (archived). Supported if counting
mini-swe-agent as separate.
Suggested Correction: Clarify: "3 fully active (Aider, OpenHands, Cline), 1 in maintenance with active successor (SWE-agent → mini-swe-agent), 1
archived (OpenCode → Crush)."
────────────────────────────────────────
Conclusion: "Installation simplicity: Aider & Cline easiest"
Evidence Gap: Task C: Aider single aider-install, Cline single npm i -g cline. OpenHands needs Node 24+ or Docker. SWE-agent requires Docker. Supported.
Suggested Correction: Valid conclusion.
Suggested Corrections (Priority Order)
High Priority (Affects Accuracy)
1. Add [unverified] markers to Model Provider table cells for: Cerebras (OpenHands, SWE-agent), Groq (OpenHands, SWE-agent), GitHub Models (OpenCode), ChatGPT Plus/Pro (OpenCode), Vercel AI Gateway (Cline), Cohere/DeepSeek/xAI for OpenHands/SWE-agent/OpenCode (LiteLLM/Models.dev only).
2. Mark Aider Web UI as [unverified] in Integrations table (Task B explicitly flags this).
3. Clarify Cline JetBrains plugin status: "Official plugin (Marketplace) — not open-source per README" in Integrations table.
4. Add maintenance/archive notices to Model Provider and Integrations tables for SWE-agent (main) and OpenCode.
5. Fix Cline/OpenHands issue/PR count coincidence — both show 1,668/782. Flag both as [unverified] or remove exact numbers.
Medium Priority (Completeness)
6. Add missing Source URLs for: Docker images, npm/PyPI packages, multi-repo URLs (OpenHands), Crush/mini-swe-agent docs.
7. Add SWE-agent mirror repo to master table.
8. Qualify "first-class docs" claim for Aider local models with specific doc URLs.
9. Verify or remove specific star counts, release counts, issue/PR counts — or mark all as [snapshot: Oct 2026].
Low Priority (Polish)
10. Standardize "Active" vs "Maintenance" vs "Archived" labels across all tables.
11. Add footnote that all GitHub stats are Oct 2026 snapshots.
12. Cross-reference Task B's Unverified Claims list with consolidated report's Unverified Claims — ensure all 8 are reflected.
Summary
The consolidated report is largely accurate for repository URLs, licenses, and high-level comparisons. Main issues:
- 10+ capability/integration claims lack specific source URLs
- Model provider table missing [unverified] on individual LiteLLM/Models.dev cells
- GitHub stats presented as exact numbers but are unverified snapshots
- Several source URLs missing from consolidated reference section
- Two contradictions: SWE-agent/OpenCode status in tables vs. maintenance/archive reality
Before publication: Address High Priority items 1-5. The report should not claim verification for any model-provider cell that relies solely on LiteLLM/Models.dev upstream support without project-specific documentation.Hermes Agent audited the consolidated report against the three delegated task outputs and identified several accuracy and documentation gaps.
The audit flagged 10+ claims lacking specific source URLs, unverified model-provider support, inconsistent project maintenance statuses, questionable GitHub statistics, and missing package and Docker links. It also recommended corrections to the Cline JetBrains plugin and Aider browser-based mode claims.
Final recommendation: Fix the five high-priority issues before publishing, mark unsupported claims as unverified, and standardize project status labels across all tables.
Step 9: Try Delegation on a Coding Task
Research helps with delegation, but software development offers another practical use case.
For this experiment, use a small test repository rather than a production codebase.
Ask Hermes to divide a task into three independent workstreams:
I want to test subagent delegation on a software project.
Use a test repository and inspect its structure first.
Delegate these tasks where appropriate:
Agent A:
Review the existing code and identify potential bugs.
Do not modify files.
Agent B:
Inspect the existing tests and identify missing test cases.
Do not modify files.
Agent C:
Review the README and identify documentation gaps.
Do not modify files.
After all agents finish:
1. Combine their findings.
2. Remove duplicate issues.
3. Identify disagreements.
4. Prioritize the findings.
5. Reference the relevant files and lines where possible.
Do not change any files during this experiment.─ ☤ Hermes ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────╮

All three subagents have completed their tasks. Now I need to compile their findings,
combine them, remove duplicates, identify disagreements, prioritize, and reference relevant
files and lines.
Let me extract the key findings from each agent:
**Agent A (Code Review) - Potential Bugs:**
1. Empty/Whitespace Name Handling (greet.py:9) - No validation for empty string or whitespace-only
names
2. Missing Input Validation / Type Safety (greet.py:7) - Type hints only, no runtime validation
3. CLI Missing Required Argument Handling (argparse handles this but test doesn't verify
)
4. No Exit Code on Error (greet.py:13-18) - main() doesn't return explicit exit codes
5. shout flag only uppercases greeting, not name (by design but could be confusing)
**Agent B (Test Review) - Missing Test Cases:**
1. Whitespace-only names (spaces, tabs, newlines)
2. Unicode/international names
3. Very long names (buffer/performance)
4. Special characters in names (quotes, backslashes, emojis)
5. CLI: Missing argument error handling (no name provided)
6. CLI: Unknown argument handling
7. CLI: shout flag position variations (--shout before name)
8. Case sensitivity of --shout flag
9. Return code verification on error conditions
10. Test for greet() with whitespace-only names
11. Test for shout=False explicit (default)
**Agent C (Documentation Review) - Documentation Gaps:**
1. Missing Installation Instructions (Python version, setup steps, virtualenv)
2. Missing Dependency Information (stdlib only, requirements.txt not referenced)
3. Incomplete Usage Examples (missing --help example, flag ordering)
4. Missing Troubleshooting/FAQ
5. Inconsistencies between README and code (README shows `python greet.py <name> [--
shout]` but doesn't mention `--shout` can go before name)
6. Missing Contribution/Development Guidelines
7. Missing License Information
8. Missing Version/Changelog info
9. requirements.txt exists but not referenced
Now let me combine these findings, remove duplicates, identify disagreements, and
prioritize. The user wants me to continue from where I left off - compiling the findings
from the three subagents into a consolidated report. Let me read the full transcripts

Project: Friendly Greeting CLI (/Volumes/SanDisk/Projects/techlatest/hermes-persistent-dev/project/)
Delegation: deleg_3fe1ac59 — 3 parallel agents (Code Review, Test Review, Documentation Review)
Date: October 29, 2026
Executive Summary
| Agent | Findings Count | Critical | High | Medium | Low |
|-----------------|----------------|----------|------|--------|-----|
| Agent A (Code) | 7 | 0 | 2 | 3 | 2 |
| Agent B (Tests) | 11 | 0 | 3 | 5 | 3 |
| Agent C (Docs) | 8 | 0 | 2 | 4 | 2 |
Total Unique Findings: 21 (after deduplication)
Cross-Agent Overlaps: 3 findings identified by multiple agents
No direct contradictions found between agents.
Combined Findings (Deduplicated & Prioritized)
🔴 HIGH PRIORITY
1. Empty/Whitespace Name Handling — Identified by Agent A & Agent B
- Files: greet.py:9, test_greet.py:13
- Issue: greet("") returns "Hello, ! Nice to see you!" — no validation for empty or whitespace-only names.
- Test Gap: Empty string tested but passes (line 13); whitespace-only (" ") not tested.
- Impact: Awkward UX; could be a bug if name is semantically required.
- Agents: A (Code), B (Tests)
2. Missing CLI Error Condition Tests — Identified by Agent B
- Files: test_greet.py (no coverage), greet.py:13-18
- Missing Tests:
- Missing required name argument → should exit with code 2
- Unknown flag (e.g., --invalid) → should error
- Multiple positional arguments → argparse behavior undefined
- Impact: No confidence in CLI robustness.
3. No Python Version / Install Guidance in README — Identified by Agent C
- Files: README.md:1-35, greet.py:1 (shebang), requirements.txt:1
- Issue: No Python version stated (type hints + shebang → 3.7+), no install steps, requirements.txt unreferenced.
- Impact: New users cannot reliably set up project.
🟡 MEDIUM PRIORITY
4. No Runtime Input Validation / Type Safety — Identified by Agent A
- File: greet.py:7
- Issue: Type hints only; passing non-str/non-bool causes confusing errors at f-string or .upper().
- Example: greet(123) → TypeError at f-string; greet("Alice", "true") → AttributeError at .upper().
- Mitigation: Add isinstance checks or use pydantic/dataclasses.
5. Whitespace-Only Name Not Handled — Identified by Agent A & B
- Files: greet.py:9, test_greet.py (missing)
- Issue: greet(" ") → "Hello, ! Nice to see you!" — same UX issue as empty string.
- Test Gap: Not covered in existing tests.
6. Special Characters / Unicode Not Tested — Identified by Agent B
- Files: test_greet.py (missing), greet.py:9
- Missing: Unicode names ("José", "李四"), emoji ("👋"), newlines/tabs in name.
- Risk: f-string interpolation may behave unexpectedly with control characters.
7. Very Long Name (DoS/Truncation Risk) — Identified by Agent B
- Files: test_greet.py (missing), greet.py:9
- Missing: Test with 10KB+ name string — could cause memory/output issues.
8. --shout Flag Position Not Tested — Identified by Agent B
- Files: test_greet.py:46-56 (only tests --shout after name)
- Missing: --shout before name (python greet.py --shout Alice) — argparse allows this but untested.
9. README Missing Dependency Declaration — Identified by Agent C
- Files: README.md, requirements.txt:1
- Issue: Code uses only stdlib (argparse) — not stated in README. requirements.txt exists but unlinked.
10. Incomplete Usage Examples — Identified by Agent C
- Files: README.md:7-9
- Missing: --help output example, error message examples, combining flags.
11. No Troubleshooting / FAQ Section — Identified by Agent C
- Files: README.md:1-35
- Missing: Common issues (permission errors, Python not found, encoding issues).
12. No License Information — Identified by Agent C
- Files: README.md, project root (no LICENSE file found)
- Impact: Legal ambiguity for users/contributors.
13. No Contribution / Development Guidelines — Identified by Agent C
- Files: README.md, project root
- Missing: How to run tests, code style, PR process, issue reporting.
🟢 LOW PRIORITY
14. shout Parameter Default Only in Function Signature — Identified by Agent A
- File: greet.py:7, 17
- Issue: Default shout=False in function but CLI explicitly passes args.shout (always bool). Minor inconsistency.
15. No Shebang Portability Note — Identified by Agent A
- File: greet.py:1
- Issue: #!/usr/bin/env python3 assumes python3 in PATH; not portable to all systems.
16. No argparse Version/Description Richness — Identified by Agent A
- File: greet.py:14
- Issue: Minimal ArgumentParser — no version, epilog, or examples.
17. Test Uses Hardcoded CWD — Identified by Agent B
- File: test_greet.py:25, 38, 52
- Issue: cwd="." assumes test run from project root; fails if run from elsewhere.
18. No Test for --help Exit Code on Error — Identified by Agent B
- File: test_greet.py:32-43
- Issue: Only tests success path; --help on error not tested.
19. No Parametrized Tests — Identified by Agent B
- File: test_greet.py:9-16
- Issue: Repetitive assert lines; could use @pytest.mark.parametrize for maintainability.
20. README References pytest But No Config — Identified by Agent C
- File: README.md:28
- Issue: python -m pytest test_greet.py -v suggested but no pyproject.toml/pytest.ini exists.
21. No Release / Version Info — Identified by Agent C
- Files: README.md, greet.py
- Missing: Version number, changelog, release process.
Cross-Agent Overlaps (Agreement = Higher Confidence)
| Finding | Agent A | Agent B | Agent C | Consensus |
|--------------------------------|---------|---------|---------|----------------------------------|
| Empty/whitespace name handling | ✅ | ✅ | — | Confirmed — both code & test gap |
| Whitespace-only name | ✅ | ✅ | — | Confirmed — code gap + test gap |
| Missing CLI error tests | — | ✅ | — | Agent B only (test-specific) |
| Missing install/deps in README | — | — | ✅ | Agent C only (doc-specific) |
No disagreements found — agents identified complementary issues in their domains.
Prioritization Matrix
| Priority | Finding | Effort to Fix | Risk if Unfixed |
|----------|----------------------------------|---------------|-------------------------------------|
| 1 | Empty/whitespace name validation | Low | UX bug, potential downstream issues |

Recommended Next Steps
1. Immediate (Low effort, high impact):
- Add input validation in greet() for empty/whitespace names
- Add 4-5 missing CLI error tests in test_greet.py
- Add Python version, install steps, and stdlib note to README
- Add LICENSE file (MIT recommended for simplicity)
2. Short-term:
- Parametrize test_greet_function()
- Add unicode/whitespace/long-name tests
- Fix hardcoded cwd in tests
- Add troubleshooting section to README
3. Long-term:
- Add contribution guidelines
- Add versioning/changelog
- Consider pyproject.toml for pytest config and packaging

┌─ Reasoning ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
The user is showing me the completion messages from the delegation. These are the same
results I already read from the log files and compiled into my consolidated report. The
delegation is complete and I've already provided the comprehensive consolidated report.
I should acknowledge this completion and confirm the work is done.

╭─ ☤ Hermes ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────╮
The delegation completed successfully. All three subagents finished and I've already compiled their findings into the consolidated report above. The key results:
- Agent A (Code Review): 7 issues — empty/whitespace name handling, missing runtime validation, Unicode uppercasing, missing CLI conventions, test gaps
- Agent B (Test Review): 11 missing test cases — unicode/special chars, long names, CLI error conditions, flag reordering, test quality issues
- Agent C (Doc Review): 8 documentation gaps — missing install steps, dependencies, troubleshooting, license, contribution guidelines, version info
Cross-agent overlaps: 3 findings identified by multiple agents (empty/whitespace name handling confirmed by both A and B). No contradictions found.
The consolidated report includes deduplicated findings, prioritization matrix, and specific file/line references for all 21 unique issues.
╰────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────╯Hermes Agent successfully delegated a code review, test review, and documentation review to three parallel subagents. The agents completed their tasks, and Hermes consolidated their findings into a single report.
The report identified 21 unique findings after deduplication, including:
- Code review: Input validation issues and handling of empty or whitespace-only names.
- Test review: Missing Unicode, special-character, long-input, and CLI error-condition tests.
- Documentation review: Missing installation instructions, dependency information, troubleshooting, license details, and contribution guidelines.
The report also includes severity priorities, cross-agent overlaps, file and line references, and recommended next steps.
Important: The agents only reviewed the project; no files were modified during this experiment.
Step 10: Review the Findings and Decide What to Fix First
After the three subagents completed their reviews, Hermes consolidated their findings into a single report. The goal was not just to list issues, but to identify which problems deserved attention first.
The report grouped the findings by priority and included file references, line numbers, and recommended next steps.
The highest-priority recommendations were:
- Validate user input: Handle empty and whitespace-only names in
greet.py. - Expand CLI tests: Test missing arguments, unknown flags, and other error conditions.
- Improve the README: Document the Python version, installation steps, and dependencies.
- Strengthen test coverage: Add tests for Unicode names, special characters, and long inputs.
- Improve project documentation: Add troubleshooting instructions, contribution guidelines, and license information.
One important detail: the subagents were instructed to review the project without modifying any files. Hermes produced recommendations, but implementing those changes would require a separate step.
This distinction matters when evaluating coding agents. Finding a problem, recommending a fix, and successfully implementing that fix are three different tasks.
In this experiment, the delegation workflow produced a consolidated review with 21 unique findings, prioritized recommendations, and specific file and line references. The next step would be to apply selected fixes and run the test suite to verify them independently.
Step 11: Evaluate the Experiment and Its Limitations
The experiment demonstrated how Hermes Agent can delegate different review tasks to multiple subagents and consolidate their findings into one report.
Instead of asking a single agent to review the entire project in one pass, I separated the work into three focused tasks:
- Code review: Identify potential bugs and input-validation issues.
- Test review: Find missing test cases and gaps in CLI coverage.
- Documentation review: Identify missing setup instructions and project documentation.
All three subagents completed their reviews. Hermes then combined the results, removed duplicate findings, prioritized issues, and mapped recommendations to specific files and line numbers.
The consolidated report contained 21 unique findings, with three areas of overlap across the reviews. No direct contradictions were reported between the agents.
However, there are some limitations to consider.
First, identifying a potential issue does not automatically mean it is a confirmed bug. Recommendations such as adding runtime type validation or a license file still require a developer to evaluate the project’s requirements.
Second, the number of findings is not a measure of review quality by itself. A useful review should identify meaningful problems, provide evidence, and avoid false positives.
Finally, this experiment evaluated analysis and delegation — not autonomous code repair. The agents were explicitly instructed not to modify files, and no fixes or test-suite results were produced during this run.
To evaluate the next stage, I would ask Hermes to implement a small set of approved fixes, run the tests, and report which changes passed verification.
Conclusion
This experiment gave me a practical look at how Hermes Agent’s multi-agent delegation works on a real code-review task.
Three subagents examined the same small Python CLI project from different perspectives. Their findings were consolidated into a report covering code quality, missing tests, documentation gaps, priorities, and file-level references.
The biggest advantage was the separation of responsibilities. Each agent could focus on a specific part of the review, while the parent agent brought the results together into a single report.
But delegation is not a guarantee of correctness. The final report still needs human review, and suggested fixes must be tested before they can be considered successful.
For me, the key takeaway is simple: multi-agent delegation is most useful when tasks have clear boundaries, outputs can be compared, and the final results are independently verified.
The next experiment would be to move beyond identifying problems and test whether Hermes can implement selected fixes, run the test suite, and verify the changes without introducing regressions.
