Chapter 1, Episode 10. 🎤 The Club Audition.
The announcement came on a Tuesday afternoon “Campus Performing Arts Club: Open Auditions This Friday!” Posters were everywhere bright, bold, impossible to ignore.
Kemi spotted one and gasped. “Treasure! We’re doing this!”
Treasure nearly choked on her drink. “Doing what?”
“The audition, of course! You have a nice voice, and I can dance like Beyoncé on caffeine.”
Treasure laughed nervously. “Kemi, I can’t even talk in front of people without my heart doing gymnastics.”
Kemi crossed her arms. “Exactly why you need to try. No hiding this semester. We’re unlocking fearless Treasure!”
By Friday, the auditorium buzzed with excitement. Students filled the seats, chatting and cheering for their friends. Treasure sat near the back, clutching her notebook the one that held her secret poems and short verses.
She hadn’t planned to perform. But when the host called, “Next!” and Kemi nudged her whispering, “Go,” something inside her shifted. Maybe it was courage. Maybe it was insanity. Either way, her legs moved before her brain caught up.
The lights hit her face. Her palms were sweating. The room blurred for a second.
But then she looked down at her notebook the words she had written one lonely night on her first week here and began to speak.
