What Happens When You Let People Describe What They Actually Need?

I kept noticing the same pattern. A school needs stationery, a government office needs cleaning supplies, a family needs electrical fittings — and everyone ends up running from shop to shop, collecting quotes, comparing quality, hoping they haven’t missed something. That’s the problem I started Oitto to solve.

The idea for Oitto didn’t arrive as a dramatic revelation. It came quietly, from watching the same frustration play out again and again.

Someone needs supplies for their office. A school administrator needs stationery before the new term starts. A family is setting up a new home and needs everything from electrical fittings to cleaning supplies. A company needs housekeeping materials for its facility.

And every single time, the process looks roughly the same.

You ask around. Someone recommends a shop here, a supplier there. You make calls, send messages, visit a few places. You compare prices, check availability, hope the quality is right. Then you repeat the whole exercise for the next category of items because the shop that had good stationery doesn’t really do electrical supplies, and the electrical supplier doesn’t deal with cleaning products.

It works. But it’s exhausting. And for institutions and businesses that need to do this regularly, it’s not just exhausting — it’s inefficient.

That’s the problem I kept circling back to. And eventually, it became the reason I started Oitto.

The problem nobody asks about

Here’s something I’ve noticed about how we buy everyday supplies in Agartala and across Tripura.

Most of us don’t actually want to shop for these things. We just want them to be available when we need them. A government department doesn’t want to spend a week finding a reliable source for office stationery. A school doesn’t want to juggle three different vendors for notebooks, cleaning supplies, and basic electrical items. A small business doesn’t want to maintain relationships with six different suppliers for what should be a straightforward requirement.

But that’s exactly what happens. Because the local market is fragmented. You have specialised shops for different categories — stationery shops, electrical shops, hardware shops, cleaning supply distributors. Each one is good at what they do. But nobody is looking at the bigger picture of what a customer actually needs.

The customer isn’t thinking in categories. They’re thinking in requirements.

“I need to set up an office.” “I need supplies for the upcoming school year.” “I need to restock our facility’s cleaning materials.”

That’s how real people think. But the market forces them to translate that into a series of disconnected shopping trips.

I started wondering , what if there was a way for someone to just describe what they need, and have someone else handle the sourcing?

The idea behind Oitto

That question led me to the idea for Oitto.

The name is short, and I wanted it to feel local and practical. But the concept is bigger than the name.

Oitto is a supply and sourcing business based in Agartala, focused on serving Tripura. The core idea is simple: instead of making customers search through multiple suppliers for different requirements, Oitto lets them describe what they need, and we work on sourcing it.

If you need office stationery, we help source it. If you need electrical supplies for a facility, we help arrange it. If you need cleaning products, plumbing materials, or even help finding a carpenter or electrician, we work on that too.

The range is intentionally broad — office supplies, home supplies, electrical, plumbing, cleaning, stationery, and other practical everyday-use items. Plus a selection of local services like electricians, plumbers, painters, carpenters, interior design, and general housekeeping.

But here’s the important part: Oitto is not an ecommerce store.

Why I didn’t build another online store

When I was thinking about how to build this, the obvious route would have been to create a conventional online store. Product listings, shopping cart, checkout, delivery.

But the more I thought about it, the more I felt that didn’t match the reality of how institutions and businesses in Tripura actually buy things.

A government department doesn’t shop online like an individual buying a phone case. A school doesn’t browse a catalogue the way someone might browse for a new shirt. The procurement process for institutions involves requirements, specifications, quotations, approvals, and timelines. It’s not a one-click transaction.

Even for individuals, the needs are often too specific to fit neatly into a product listing. Someone might need a particular type of electrical fitting, a specific quality of cleaning supplies, or a combination of items that don’t belong to one category.

So instead of building a store with fixed products and prices, I built Oitto around a requirement-based model.

You tell us what you need. You share your organisation, contact details, and the specifics of your requirement. We get back to you, understand what you’re looking for, work on sourcing and quotations, and help move the requirement toward confirmation.

It’s a conversation, not a checkout process.

I believe this fits how people in our market actually want to work. They don’t want to be limited by what’s listed on a website. They want to describe what they need and have someone take it from there.

What Oitto actually does

In practical terms, here’s how it works.

If you need supplies — whether you’re a government department, a school, a college, a private company, an NGO, or an individual — you can reach out to Oitto through the website. You describe your requirement, share your details, and we take it from there.

We communicate with you to understand the requirement properly. We work on sourcing the items or materials you need. We prepare a quotation. And once everything is clear, we move toward confirmation.

For services, it works similarly. If you need an electrician for a job, a plumber for repairs, a painter for a project, or help with housekeeping, Oitto can connect you with selected local service providers.

The website has a request or requirement section where you can submit what you need. There’s also an ideas or blog section where I plan to share thoughts and practical information related to sourcing and supplies.

The business is focused on Agartala and the wider Tripura market. That’s intentional. I’m not trying to build a national platform or a global brand. I’m trying to build something useful for the place I’m in.

Who Oitto is built for

When I think about who Oitto serves, I think about the people and organisations that need supplies on a regular basis but don’t have the time or resources to manage multiple supplier relationships.

Government departments — they need reliable sourcing for office supplies, stationery, and facility materials. The process should be straightforward, not stressful.

Schools and colleges — they need supplies before terms start, for events, for daily operations. A single point of contact for multiple categories makes sense.

Private companies — they need office supplies, cleaning materials, and sometimes services for their facilities. They want efficiency.

NGOs — they often work with limited resources and need practical, cost-effective sourcing.

And individuals — someone setting up a home, doing repairs, or needing a service like a plumber or electrician.

The common thread is that all of these people have requirements. They don’t want to become experts in sourcing. They just want the things they need to be available.

Why Agartala and Tripura

I’ve thought a lot about why this matters specifically for Agartala and Tripura.

Like many cities in Northeast India, Agartala is growing. New offices are opening. Schools and colleges are expanding. Businesses are being set up. Homes are being built. With that growth comes demand — for supplies, materials, and services.

But the sourcing ecosystem hasn’t necessarily kept pace in an organised way. People still rely on word of mouth, scattered shops, and personal connections to find what they need. That works at a small scale, but it becomes a bottleneck as needs grow and become more complex.

I believe Tripura can benefit from a more organised approach to sourcing. Not a faceless online platform, but a local business that understands the market, knows the suppliers, and can help customers navigate their requirements.

There’s also something important about building locally. When a business is rooted in a place, it has a different kind of accountability. It’s not just about transactions. It’s about relationships, reputation, and being part of the local economy.

I want Oitto to be that kind of business.

What I want Oitto to become

I want Oitto to become the kind of business that people in Agartala and Tripura think of when they have a requirement — whether it’s office supplies for a department, stationery for a school, materials for a facility, or a service like plumbing or electrical work.

I want it to be simple. You have a need. You describe it. We help.

I want it to be reliable. When we say we’ll source something, we follow through.

And I want it to be local. Not a distant platform, but a business that’s part of this community, that understands how things work here, and that’s invested in the place it serves.

I’m not claiming Oitto is the first or the only business doing this. I’m not saying it’s going to change the world. I’m just building something I believe is useful, and I’m committed to doing it well.

A simple invitation

If you’re in Agartala or anywhere in Tripura, and you have a requirement — for your office, your institution, your home, or your organisation — you can visit Oitto’s website and tell what you need.

There’s no complicated process. No need to browse through catalogues. Just describe your requirement, share your details, and we’ll take it from there.

I can’t promise we’ll be perfect. But I can promise we’ll listen, we’ll work on your requirement, and we’ll do our best to make the process simpler than it would be if you had to figure it out on your own.

Because that’s really what Oitto is about. Making it easier for people in Tripura to get the everyday supplies and services they need, without the unnecessary complications.
