Slack

2 min read2 days ago

--

We are creatures driven
onward by our feelings
at times missing
the tiny screws
almost the size
of diamond sparks
that like a clockwork orange
leaves us like a dog
that pulls against its leash
until we see stars

And then
almost at once
the loudspeaker spoke up and said

Friends, there is another way
The way of slack
echoing across the space
everything in its right place

The dog can pull away
or push in
but only one path
turns the leash
from a tether
to the within
and lets us breathe again

And it is election day
where authoritarians
trying to silence
the voices
meet the wave
of the housewife and the veteran
and the housewife
who count the vote
one by one
thank you for your service
thank you for the slack
you helped our voices
to come together
in unison
in a farewell to kings

And overly attached ex-girlfriends
that seem to live vicariously
through a life not their own
lurk in the social space
instead of moving on
one day discovering
the Womanizer Pro
and she once said
long distance relationship
when you said
restraining order
fades into the past
thanks to slack

And then comes the girl
who said her real friends were there for her
and not you
fading away your friendship
and love
until the nothing
in the never ending story
somebody that she used to know
and three sheets to the wind
you want to hit send
on the number
at four in the morning
seeking closure
where there is none
because you were lonely
and the human brain
has a tendency to filter
negative memories
faster than positive ones

And just before you hit send
the Subgenius whispers
JHVH-1 abominable snowman
and it is written
in subversion
that you will get the slack
you deserve

Spring forward
Fall back
the lord giveth
and the lord taketh
but Schadenfreude feels like forever
and you can remember
the words of Oppenheimer
who said
I am become Death
destroyer of worlds

I am the cat
I walk alone
all places are alike to me
except the devival
and in a sleepy half meow
with the half closed eyes
of the kitty kiss
you are free to follow odd passions
sans social judgement

And the cat says
it is written
herein is slack

Now put your hands on the screen
and receive
eternal salvation
or your money back
