At the same time, with how some governments and other bodies find issue with this innocuous stuff, to the point of convicting a woman for writing a far more explicit fantasy book with no real people involved, no one exploited… I fear we’re losing all proportion. As real victims get sidlined.
I’m not joking about that in February of 2026, An Austraian woman was arrested for writing a BDSM fiction. Totally gross especually what it involved but still not the hands on harm to a real person or targeting a real person.

what worries me is this

there is no common era. just an oppressive restriction that has emerged.
there is no adjusting for the “common era”. That censorship that has been normalized is wrong. such things of the past do not cause harm. The change is nonsense from people who incorrectly believe the older titles and such expression woudl cause harm. This is not the case.

To the good people of Marvelous entertainment. i am sorry to hear that there appear to be changes. The director of Senran Kagura left over censorship and bowdlerization concerns. I would hope no such censorship from CERO restrictions or console content restrictions i am very worried about them becoming more strict over time. With recent interviews. things look grim to appeal to a “modern audience”. There’s also a lot of “nitpicking” about what is acceptable or with in guidlines or not. I worry a great deal. We have the “sony check” that flags harmless things as a problem that wouldn’t have been a problem some years ago.. or as little as 3 years ago. This may be a mistranslation of the official japanese statment. That said, if it is indeed changing things to “tone down” things… Personally, i find such bowlderizing and other censorial things as unwise and harmful to the art. Remember censor bars? They were the black boxes often used in print and visual media to cover up words, phrases, or images deemed “inappropriate” or too “sensitive” for audiences. The intention was to obstruct a graphic image, lewd gesture, or a taboo word. But, of course, they had the opposite effect. Nothing highlights a middle finger on TV like a big black bar, and nothing piques the interest of precocious children like redacted or bleeped out words. But what if, rather than being covered up, they weren’t there at all? What if you read different words in your books and never even knew the original language was changed? We are experiencing a concerning confluence of cynicism on the part of publishers, who want to avoid bad press and continue to sell reprints, and our rampantly censorial culture, where recreational outrage and perpetual offense pervade. Together, these phenomena sanitize, flatten, and dull a world meant to be rich with creativity, experimentation, and growth — and that’s not good for anybody. Demands to modify art to satisfy contemporary sensibilities never seem to age well. Attempting to create art that upsets no one will only create art that engages, entertains, and inspires no one. If we wish to promote and preserve free expression, interesting and provocative art, and the ability to change culture — and to recognize that cultural change has occurred — we will have to turn our current trend toward censorship and sensitivity reading in the other direction. the PlayStation release of LISA and its censorship controversy highlights non-transparency and arbitrariness of platforms policing video game content To put it bluntly, demands to modify art to satisfy contemporary sensibilities never seem to age well, and it’s hard to see why this modern regime will be different.

to go with the flow as people decend in to fascism. be a resister.
you need to talk to these raitings groups and the age raitings people as if they’re enemies. because they are. The are a hold over from the White surpemicist Hayes code that banned “girly men” or skirts being too short.

if anyone looks at your games and thinks “pedo” then THATS’ ON THEM especially with the people making such restrictions on fiction hurting real people.
If there is no one exploited in the process of making a work. then it is not and cannot be criminal and you dont’ even approach that.
talk to the ethics and integrety and brand risk boards. if you censor you’ll lose more than just money. You’ll lose consumer confidence.
