The New Essential for Travelling in a Pandemic
The Prayer Parka by TAKVA has found an additional use for itself- as protective gear for travel.
I’ve been an avid fan of TAKVA’s innovative lifestyle products ever since they made waves with their pocketable travel mat, and even more so after they stole the show with their modest dress-in-a-bag, the Prayer Parka. I got myself the Navy one, which actually accompanied me through my travels and many wet-weather plans, due to their water-resistant fabric.
However, with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that threatens to change the way we travel forever, we have been forced to reinvent our travel habits.
The risk is so: You’re flying on the plane, or travelling on public buses and trains. You’re not sure who sat on the seat before you- were they infected, or not?
I found that the Parka I purchased came in so handy during situations like this.

Since it was a full-length dress similar to the ones that professional healthcare workers wear at the hospital, albeit a very fashionable and breathable alternative, I felt so protected, no, completely wrapped up in my little protective bubble as I waltzed about my daily business outside, without worrying that me or my clothes would catch some of those dreadful germs.
And what’s even better was the adjustable pull elastics attached to the hood- I could pull it over my face and the inner double hood also gave me an extra protection around my hair, so no brushing against the seats, EVER.
Once I arrive at my destination, I could just pull off the parka and store it in the bag that it comes with, to the laundry, so it doesn’t contaminate all of my other clothes!
I had a quick chat with the co-founder and designer, Meryem, and she applauded the very innovative switch of use to adapt to the changing times,
“It was initially designed as a weather-friendly piece of apparel that would have multiple uses, for modest outerwear outside, or a convenient slip-on, but we never did thought that it would be the best companion for someone who had to travel during a pandemic.”
I’d say it was great foresight by TAKVA to develop a product that would take off in two years as people grapple with the adjustments of travelling and commuting. This, I’d say, is true innovation!
