About Me — Dylan Chia
Here’s hoping my personal resume inspires you to write yours too (that's vastly different from a professional one)
It’s never easy writing about yourself. From social media bios to professional descriptions, I believe self-introductions leave most of us scratching our heads and pondering who we exactly are (and not in a philosophical sense, too). I faced the same issue: I had planned to share my story but was unsure which direction to take. That is, until I realised it could be framed as a personal resume.
For starters, this wouldn’t be a professional resume. My background in marketing and communications, my key skills — including social media management, content creation, and marketing strategy — and my creative yet analytical nature would be fully elaborated on there. Here, they’re just a footnote in the omnibus of my life.
What then should go in my personal resume? If a professional resume contains educational histories and organisational achievements, a personal resume should complement it by including anecdotes and other fun facts. In short, this would be a parallel space to share other stories about myself; to display who I am beyond workplace contributions.
