Orlando was just a city name for me until a few weeks ago.
In America, it is a city where every parent wants to take their children, and if they haven’t taken them during their childhood, it becomes an expensive vacation activity for themselves; Disneyland… It is always crowded, and its other four locations are equally popular. The city of fairy tales exists in Los Angeles, Florida, Paris, and Tokyo.
It never caught my interest for some reason, even though I like fairy tales. I have even watched some recent anime films, but I guess my fairy tale world is still stuck with the stories of Dede Korkut.
Anyway, let’s get to the point, Orlando is no longer just a city name for me thanks to my reading group “SatırArası Kitap Klübü” (Between the Lines Book Club). Let me thank my friend who suggested reading it here.
Orlando is now a beautiful woman, a handsome man, smooth skin, beautiful legs, an intelligent woman, an agile warrior, a poet, a man ready to give up everything for love, a diplomat, a gypsy, and feelings we may not even know where they belong…
I am talking about Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando”. If you haven’t read it yet, I strongly recommend adding it to your reading list.
