I Took the Myers-Briggs Personality Test. Now I know Why These People Piss Me Off
Now I know who I can drink with and who I should run from. That’s cool.
I’m an Organizational Behavior specialist. That means I had to learn about psychology, and take a lot of psychological tests/surveys, and learn a whole shitload about myself I never really wanted to know.
One of these tests was the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) that sorts people into 16 distinct personality “profiles” based on four dyadic types of opposing inclinations. That’s academese for “we’re going to stick you into one of 16 profiles based on what you like/don’t like so we can compare you to other people and decide who you play nice with.”
When I was a doctoral student, there were only four of us pitiful bastards in a seminar course. (A seminar course is where you show up once a week for 3 hours and talk about 400 pages of research literature. Shit — I want to shoot myself just describing it to you.) Anyway, our professor had us complete the MBTI and compare our profiles with each other.
I will NOT bore you with any of that shit. What I will tell you is that I am an “INTJ.” (Don’t worry — I’ll tell you what the fuck that means in a minute.) One of the other students, a young woman my age I’ll call…
