Learning Never Lets You Become Old
Source: Inclusive Storybook Garden of Joy
I fondly remember my school days. There was no nursery schooling in my childhood; we entered school at the age of six. School was a place of learning, friendship and fun, and its garden was part of that joy. Even today, those memories bring a smile to my face.
Young children learn quickly. When we introduce them to books early, reading can become a lifelong habit. A story shared before bedtime or a picture book explored together can awaken curiosity and give us something to talk about.
Looking at it, I think of the children who remain at the edge of such activities. The child who is present but seldom invited. The child whose name is on the attendance register but whose preferences nobody knows.
We may say that every child is welcome. What happens after that welcome matters.
Consider a game organised in a children’s home. Most children understand the instructions and begin immediately. One needs the instructions explained differently. Another cannot move quickly enough to keep up. A third wants to join but is unsure how to approach the group.
Does someone notice? Does the game change a little? Or do the same children sit out again?
