“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? ”[James 2:14–16 NIV]

In this month of missions, you have been reminded of the myriad ways you can participate in the work on the field. Today we look at the aspect of sending.

From our main verse we see that as Christians we must attach good deeds to the proclamation of our faith. These deeds are the proof that we are truly living a transformed life through the grace of salvation.

Understandably not every believer can or should travel to mission fields around the world in order to contribute or participate in missions. Like Paul mentions in Titus 3:13

“Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way and see that they have everything they need”, there are a myriad of ways we can assist other believers as they go on their way for missions. Today we shall highlight a few ways to contribute.

Firstly, you can commission others. Depending on the missionary work you involve yourself in, you can commission craftsmen, artisans and designers to assist in the missionary projects. You can also commission chefs and cooks to assist in the provision of food. By so doing, you are sending help and relieving the mission-goers of some of these duties.

Secondly, you can support other believers who are going on mission trips. By providing the funds and resources to other believers who are available to travel for missions you equip them for the work. You can raise money, be a contact point people can donate through, bring in sponsors, make arrangements to receive funds from organizations and pray. Pray for those going. Pray for those they are going to.

Another way to participate is by providing logistical assistance. Any group of people going on a journey need an incredible amount of logistical assistance to successfully go on the journey, complete their mission at their destination and return safely. From planning transportation, to accommodations (Philemon 1:22 NIV), meals (taking into account dietary restrictions) and also detailing daily itineraries. There are many things to take into account before the mission trip begins. You can contribute by helping in the process of making all these plans and putting the systems in place to execute them.

Finally, you can contribute to the mission field by staying connected. Although you are not physically present with them, you can keep praying with and for the missionaries.

As CYI- One Way Missions is in Bongo Soe currently, you can stay connected by engaging with the content they share. Send it to others. Throw a spotlight on the good work being done. Send words of encouragement to those on the field.

Like Paul encourages in Titus 3:13, if you cannot go on the journey; “do everything you can to help other believers on their way and see that they have everything they need. ” One way or another, make sure that you are participating in missions. Let your faith show working.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the gift of salvation and for the grace to share this Good News with others. Holy Spirit, help me see all the ways I can be involved in missions even if I cannot go on the field physically. Give me the capacity to identify areas I can provide assistance with and spur me on to providing that assistance. In Jesus name I pray with thanksgiving. Amen.
