Pi Network’s Surprise Move — Is This Your Last Chance to Get It for FREE?
The Biggest Crypto Airdrop in History?
Pi Network has taken the crypto world by storm. Just days after its launch, it climbed into the top 20 coins — a feat that’s nothing short of remarkable. This is the biggest crypto airdrop in history, even bigger than Uniswap’s, and like most launches, it followed a familiar pattern: a quick dump.
Typically, after an airdrop, early investors rush to take profits, causing the price to drop even further. That’s just how the market works. But then, something unexpected happened — Pi Network skyrocketed.
I have friends who has been mining Pi for over two years now. Some were encouraging me to start mining — some since 4 years ago — but I didn’t start immediately and instead started last year.
At first, I thought it was just another waste of time. I was kind of skeptical. Well, guess what? He just made a quick $1,000. And there are people who made even more.
I knew about Pi Network six years ago, but I totally dismissed it then. And now, after all this time, it finally launched on February 20th. If you got the airdrop, you’re in a great position.
Maybe you sell, maybe you hold — either way, it didn’t cost you much. But let’s be real: you’re not going to time the bottom or the top perfectly.
Technically, some argue this wasn’t even an airdrop. Since people had to mine Pi by putting in time and effort, some say it doesn’t count as a traditional airdrop. But regardless of what you call it, the fact remains: these tokens weren’t bought.
Now, the big question is — what about those who are thinking of mining Pi now? Is it too late? How about those who want to buy?
Let’s dive into what really caused this coin to skyrocket and whether it’s still a good time to mine or buy.
Why Did Pi Network Skyrocket?
Pi Network followed the usual launch pattern — a quick dump followed by a surge. But what caused this sudden pump?
One major factor is the overall crypto market sentiment. The Bitcoin Fear and Greed Index recently hit 10, the lowest since 2022. While the entire market was crashing, Pi Network was pumping. That’s not something you see every day.
But the real catalyst? A potential Binance listing.
Right now, Pi Network isn’t widely available for trading. It’s listed on platforms like Gate.io, OKX, Bitget, and MEXC.
The funny thing about this Binance listing rumor is that it’s based on nothing more than a community vote. So far, about 196k people have voted “yes,” while 29k have voted “no.” But here’s the catch — Binance made it crystal clear that this vote doesn’t determine anything. Their official statement?
“Please be informed that while we value and consider the vote results, they are for reference only and do not determine any decision or action Binance may or may not take. These results are not final.”
Translation: just because people voted doesn’t mean Pi will be listed.
And yet, the price pumped purely based on speculation. Imagine what could happen if Binance actually announces a listing.
But before you rush to buy, let’s talk about what really matters — risk versus reward.
Is Pi Network a Good Investment?
When it comes to investing in any cryptocurrency, it all boils down to risk versus reward. How much are you willing to lose, and what’s the potential upside if things go well?
One of the key factors in answering this question is market cap. Knowing how big or small a coin’s market cap is can tell us whether there’s room for significant growth.
Here’s where things get tricky with Pi Network — its market cap is confusing.
According to CoinGecko, Pi has a max supply of 100 billion tokens, with a total supply of 10 billion tokens. This gives it a fully diluted valuation of $27 billion — but that’s not the number we actually need. What we want is the current circulating supply and real market cap.
To figure this out, let’s check Pi’s blockchain explorer. According to ExplorPi:
- 6 billion Pi tokens have migrated.
- 1.2 billion Pi tokens are held by “Pioneers” (people who mined by tapping their screens).
- 4.7 billion Pi tokens are locked.
Based on this, CoinMarketCap estimates Pi Network’s market cap at $17.7 billion. However, there’s a disclaimer:
“CoinMarketCap has not verified the project’s market cap. According to the project, its self-reported circulating supply is 6.6 billion Pi.”
Unlike blockchains like Ethereum or Solana, Pi’s blockchain explorers aren’t as advanced, making it harder to verify the numbers.

And then there’s the question of distribution — who holds how much?
Looking at the data, we see that:
- A large number of Pioneers hold smaller amounts of Pi.
- There are 4 wallets holding over 1 million Pi.
But here’s the issue — we don’t know how much those big wallets actually hold. Is it 1.5 million? 20 million? 50 million? The lack of transparency makes it difficult to assess how centralized or decentralized Pi’s supply really is.
This brings us to an important question: who owns these large holdings?
It’s possible that they belong to Pi Network’s core team. Now, having large holders isn’t always a bad thing — it depends on who they are and what their incentives are.
For example, look at Toncoin (TON), the blockchain linked to Telegram. Surprisingly, the top 10 holders own 62% of its total supply, while the top 100 holders control 92%. That sounds like extreme centralization, right?
But here’s why it hasn’t been an issue — one of the biggest holders is Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, who is already worth $15 billion. He has no immediate reason to sell his tokens, which has helped stabilize the ecosystem.
With Pi Network, we don’t have that level of clarity. We don’t know who controls these large wallets or what their plans are.
And that uncertainty? It’s a risk.
But what about the utility of Pi? Is there actual demand for it?
Does Pi Network Have Real Utility?
For any cryptocurrency to have lasting value, it needs real-world utility — people must want to use it for something beyond speculation.
Pi Network is actively building an ecosystem where users can spend Pi on goods and services, and its growing community could be a game-changer in the crypto space.
This real estate business is just one example I’ve found.
But here’s the key takeaway — Pi is still in the mining phase, which means you can get it for free right now. If you haven’t started mining yet, you’re missing out on a rare opportunity.

Pi Network’s Open Mainnet Launch and Exchange Listings
On February 20, 2025, Pi Network finally made the leap to Open Mainnet — a game-changing move that now allows Pioneers to trade their Pi freely and connect with external networks.
What This Means for Early Adopters
If you’ve been mining Pi, this is a huge milestone:
- Liquidity & Trading — Pi is now listed on multiple exchanges, meaning holders can finally trade their tokens for real value.
- Ecosystem Growth — Open Mainnet unlocks more use cases, making it easier to spend Pi on goods, services, and even integrate it into businesses.
The Challenges Ahead
While this is a massive step forward, it’s not all smooth sailing. Some major exchanges still hesitate to list Pi due to concerns about transparency in tokenomics and coin distribution. And with Pi’s rising popularity, scammers are on the move — so always double-check sources and stick to official channels.
And due to the many unknowns, the risk to reward isn’t quite there. Buying could be risky but it could also be profitable. This is cryptocurrency, we don’t write anything off.
But here’s what’s better.
