Halloween In New York
A point in our favor
Just because I’ve been living in the same apartment in Greenwich Village, New York City for 50 years doesn’t mean I love the Big Apple. In fact, I don’t love the city where I reside mostly because I don’t really enjoy urban life. Too many people and not enough space if you ask me.
Even as a child I recall my first visit to the city (I grew up in the suburbs). Upon seeing apartment houses, I asked my mom in horror, “People actually live in those buildings?!?!”
But I will say one thing for New York: The city really knows how to do Halloween. We have a lot of gay people living here— and a lot classify as drama queens. Nothing suits the personality more than dressing up in outlandish outfits at least once a year. And that one day falls on October 31st.
Way back in 1974, someone thought to have a parade commemorating the holiday. And in 50 years, it has blossomed into a huge event attended by two million people 50,000 of whom march in the parade.
As a DoorDasher, I can tell you right now that my ass will not be out on Halloween night. I made that mistake a few years ago and it won’t happen again.
DoorDash doesn’t recognize that a simple delivery from east of 5th Avenue to west of 5th Avenue in the Village area is a near impossibility to navigate…
