I read somewhere that it reshapes our internal landscape, releasing burdens and inviting peace. It surely does, but I’d say it also brings smiles, and it is contagious, inviting anyone else at home to join in, and hey, presto! The mood becomes lighter.

My voice feels like a caged bird set free, taking away the darkness and turbulence. Every joyous note feels like a broom sweeping the cobwebs and the dust. Letting stagnant waters rush away…and become a bubbling brook, my feet start tapping as a sudden rhythm stirs my heart. A joyful rhythm that triggers the roots of well-being inside.

My vocal cords get an airing, like a silver bridge where hidden grief flies over, aligning fractured thoughts as I feel a sense of calm, a quiet healing medicine within.

Music and singing bring warmth to the cold winter frost, retrieving fragments lost. At the risk of sounding out of tune, my voice gives my feelings shape, a sacred healing bringing me home.

The walls in my home catch my tune and cradle my pain. I may stumble on notes in a rhythm that only I know, but music heals when words fail. Singing like joy is a bubbling surge, a ‘fizz of spring’ that sweeps my spirit up.

Singing magically acts as an aerobic release—a moment when breath transforms into emotion. When words fail, singing bubbles up through dampened earth and carves a shape into the quiet, thin air—a natural euphoria.

A world of joy, a natural sense of 'well-being.'

XOXO

G

I Whistle a Happy Tune was originally published in Everyday Being on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.
