Docker Master Guide for Full-Stack AI/ML Engineers
How to containerize your frontend, backend, database, AI model, GPU workload, and development environment without turning Docker into another problem.
Docker often looks unnecessary when a project is small. Your React frontend runs with npm run dev, your FastAPI backend starts with uvicorn, PostgreSQL is installed locally, and your machine already has Python, CUDA, PyTorch, Node.js, and everything else you need.
Then another developer clones the project.
Their Python version is different. PostgreSQL is not installed. CUDA does not match PyTorch. A package behaves differently on Windows. The frontend expects the backend on another port. Someone upgrades Node.js and suddenly the build stops working.
This is where Docker starts making sense.
For a full-stack AI/ML engineer, Docker is not just a deployment tool. It is a way to define the environment your entire system needs and reproduce that environment on another machine, CI server, GPU workstation, or cloud server.
The real value is simple: instead of saying, “Install Python 3.x, install PostgreSQL, install these system packages, configure CUDA, create this folder, then run these six…
