A Piece Of The World Died With Him
Frank and Melissa Glen finish a delicious meal with Isabel and her mother and talk about their brother David
“The food was wonderful,” Frank told Isabel as he pushed the plate away from him. “I really can’t eat another bite.”
“This has to be the best Mexican food I’ve ever tasted,” Melissa agreed.
“Muchas gracias,” Ms. Fernandez answered. “It’s wonderful to be able to cook for people again.”
“My mother used to cook these huge family meals in Mexico, for all our cousins,” Isabel explained. “It’s one of the things I miss about Monterrey. But it’s so dangerous now. Muy peligrosos Mama.”
“Si,” Ms. Fernandez agreed.
“I know,” Frank interjected. “Sometimes I think the whole world’s gone to hell.”
Melissa countered. “I just think the powers that be want us to think it’s all gone to hell. There is still goodness in this world.”
“It’s a paradox,” Isabel added. “The more things seem to be going from bad to worse, the more I see goodness.”
“It seems like we’re on the threshold of some really bad times,” Frank continued. “But I agree. There’s still goodness in many people.”
