How to Dress Like a Proper Older Woman
Step one: don’t fall off the bleachers in orthopedic shoes
According to a survey by Nurture Replenish Skincare, women aged 59 and up should not wear high heels, red lipstick, or tight clothing.
Now that I’m 59 (and way, way up), when I read the survey results, I didn’t see high heels as a problem, especially since the only pair I own is a black, podiatrist-recommended model with one-and-a-half-inch heels.
Those classy shoes rarely made it off my closet shelf, but last week my preteen granddaughter participated in a band concert. Of course Grandpa and I had to go. The event was held in her middle school’s gym, and I considered it an occasion worthy of high-heeled footwear. I don’t get out much.
When the concert concluded, I climbed down from the bleachers. Tumbled down would be more appropriate. Fortunately, I was seated in the second row, but my plummet was audibly noticeable.
“Who IS that?” my granddaughter’s friend asked.
“Never saw her before,” my granddaughter answered.
“LOVE the shoes,” her friend said in a sarcastic stage whisper loud enough for the entire gym to hear.
