I Tracked the Trackers — A Week Inside Apple’s Privacy Reports
A week inside Safari’s Privacy Report and the App Privacy Report — who’s really watching you, and which Apple privacy tools actually stop them.
A few days ago, I was browsing on Safari and opened a new tab to look up something. Before I could type something, my eyes fell on something on the home page that I had ignored for a while…
Safari’s Privacy Report.
The little section of the browser’s homepage that reports how many trackers had been trying to get my data over the last 30 days, before Apple blocked them. Despite being the tech-savvy person I am, I never gave much thought to this report. I had started to take it for granted.
But that day, at that moment, I decided to dig in a bit deeper and try to understand what these trackers are and how much they know about me as a user. If Apple were serving me data about these trackers on a platter, then why not track the trackers?
And so began my expedition to find out more about the Privacy guardians in Apple’s walled garden.
