THE MOODY MAVEN TAKES THE BAIT
Hop Into The Booby Trap
Remember how we all loved singing with friends in Danny’s hotrod? Remember how he used to love hitting those speed bumps?
It’s been such a long time since we’ve sung a song from the alternate universe karaoke lounge. It’s not that I don’t like to sing ’em, it’s just that they need to come to me first. And guess what, one popped into my head after a comment by Anu maheshwari. She said something about a booby trap…
Who knows how thinking really works, but I went from Anu’s comment straight to the 50s and rock and roll. And what else would come to mind after thinking the words “Booby Trap” but “At the Hop.”
“At the Hop” was written in 1957 by Artie Singer, John Medora, and David White for Danny & the Juniors.
It reached number one on the Cash Box and Billboard charts and number one on the R&B Best Sellers list. At the Hop also reached number 3 on the Music Vendor country charts. Outside the US, it was number 1 in Canada and number 3 in the UK. In 1969 Sha Na Na performed “At the Hop” at the Woodstock Festival and then in 1973 it was featured in the American Graffiti soundtrack.
