It was confirmed today by the Tigers that Jose Iglesias is indeed unlikely to play during the 2014 season. Iglesias was diagnosed earlier this week with stress fractures in both his shins, limiting him to non-weight condition for the next 4–6 months. Obviously a blow to Tigers’ pitchers due to the defense Iglesias provides, the club has since been linked to Stephen Drew, Nick Franklin, and Jimmy Rollins as possible replacements.
- Reds’ starting pitcher Johnny Cueto was scratched from his spring training start today due to scapula irritation. Although the issue is considered to be minor, it’s concerning considering Cueto made three trips to the disabled list last season. If he avoids any other setbacks, however, he’ss till on track to be ready for his Opening Day start.
- Derek Holland — who underwent micro fracture surgery on his right knee in January — is tentatively scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on April 2nd. The Rangers currently expect him to be sidelined until after the all-star break.
