The foundation of gitconnected is sharing knowledge and helping each other grow as a community. We will outline the steps to have your articles be published on gitconnected. Be sure to follow the gitconnected publication to help support our community of authors which we hope you choose to be a part of.

Follow me on Twitter (@treyhuffine) as well as @gitconnected to stay up to date and help us share your content to reach a larger audience.

How to submit an article

We do our best to respond as quickly as possible. However, we get many requests every day and also, unfortunately, a lot of spam. We carefully read each article submitted, so it can take up to 1 week to receive a decision.

  1. Email submit@gitconnected.com with a link to your story. Please share a draft link and wait to publish the story as this will help us maximize the results from the Medium ranking algorithm. It doesn’t need to be a lengthy email — just a sentence or two and a link to an article is all you need.
  2. Our team will add you as a writer.
  3. Follow these instructions to submit a story. https://help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/213904978-Add-draft-or-post-to-publication
  4. We will review and lightly edit your story. If it meets our criteria, we will publish it.
  5. The gitconnected team will promote your story in relevant places, on social media, and to our community to help more people discover your article.
  6. Share your story on Twitter, Facebook, and other social outlets and be sure to tag @gitconnected so we can help you promote. The benefit of the gitconnected community is supporting and finding each other. However, we ask that you don’t do anything sketchy to promote your story as it will reflect poorly on yourself as well as gitconnected.

PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO THE MEDIUM MEMBERSHIP REFERRAL PROGRAM. This program has ended, and including a link in the article will diminish its quality and lower its chances of being distributed.

Benefits of submitting an article to gitconnected

Our team works very closely with our authors to help increase the number of views per article as well as provide proofreading and editing. Stories will typically see an increase of 5x to 10x or more for the number of views.

We allow you to promote your own blog or services in the article as long as you do so in a tasteful and transparent manner.

Here’s what all this means for you as a writer:

Your stories are yours. We don’t lay any claim to them. You can cross-post them wherever you want. Other newspapers and websites may even approach you about syndicating them or translating them. That’s fine with us. We just ask that — since we invest a lot of time in editing and promoting your stories — you don’t remove them from our Medium publication once we’ve published them.

How we select articles

We try to ensure that the stories will be beneficial to our readers. We seek to only publish stories that follow a few simple rules:

  • Well written
  • About interesting topics
  • Relevant to our audience of developers, designers, and data scientists.

If your article matches these criteria, we encourage you to send it to us.

How to write a good article

There have been many articles written on how to write a good story. One of the top publications is freeCodeCamp, and we recommend using their editor's handbook as a guide. The article is very thorough and simply one of the best overviews of writing on Medium. Find the handbook here.
