Advisory Board of AI Advances (ABAA)
Strategic guidance for the AI Advances publishing community
The current ABAA members are:
AI Advances was launched in May 2023 with a mission to democratize access to artificial intelligence by providing a platform for researchers, practitioners, students, and independent writers to exchange ideas and share knowledge.
As the publication grew, AI Advances was selected to participate in Medium’s Boost Nomination Pilot program, giving our editors the opportunity to identify exceptional stories for consideration by Medium’s curation team. We are also proud to have been ranked №3 by Medium among its “20 great publications for academic writers.”
In June 2024, AI Advances transitioned to a governance model overseen by an advisory board composed of contributing writers committed to the publication’s quality, direction, and collaborative growth.
In September 2026, our publishing community expanded with the launch of AI Advances Briefs, a sister publication designed for concise, focused, high-quality writing. While AI Advances primarily serves as our flagship home for substantive and long-form articles, AI Advances Briefs gives shorter ideas, perspectives, technical explanations, and analyses a dedicated home.
The two publications are managed by the same editorial team, draw from the same community of writers, and share the same mission and editorial standards.
The Advisory Board of AI Advances now provides strategic guidance for both AI Advances and AI Advances Briefs.
What is the Advisory Board of AI Advances (ABAA)?
The Advisory Board of AI Advances (ABAA) helps guide the long-term direction of the AI Advances publishing community and supports the quality, relevance, and sustainability of both AI Advances and AI Advances Briefs.
The Board consists of contributing writers who volunteer their time, experience, and professional perspectives to help our publications grow.
ABAA members play several important roles:
- Provide strategic advice on the scope, direction, positioning, and policies of both AI Advances and AI Advances Briefs.
- Help ensure that our publications continue to meet the needs of readers and remain relevant as artificial intelligence rapidly evolves.
- Uphold strong editorial and ethical standards and help preserve the reputation of the AI Advances community.
- Suggest topics, identify emerging trends, and recommend potential contributors.
- Provide feedback on publication performance and identify opportunities for improvement, expansion, and collaboration.
- Advise the editorial team on the relationship and positioning of AI Advances and AI Advances Briefs.
- Help the publications adapt to changes in Medium’s publishing ecosystem.
- Leverage professional networks to promote our publications, attract high-quality submissions, and expand the visibility of our writers.
- Serve as a resource for the editorial team by offering expertise, perspective, guidance, and support.
The Board focuses primarily on long-term strategy and governance, while day-to-day submission review and publishing decisions remain the responsibility of the editorial team.
From Boost Nominations to the Editor Partner Program
AI Advances is proud of its history as a participant in Medium’s former Boost Nomination Program.
During that era, our editors reviewed and nominated exceptional stories for consideration by Medium’s internal curation team. Participation in the program helped establish a rigorous editorial culture within AI Advances and reinforced our commitment to identifying original, substantive, and engaging writing.
In June 2026, Medium discontinued the editor-nomination portion of the Boost program and introduced the Editor Partner Program, representing a new model for supporting the work of publication editors.
Boost itself continues to be determined by Medium’s curation system, but publication editors no longer nominate individual stories for Boost consideration.
Accordingly, Boost nomination is no longer a responsibility of either the Advisory Board or our managing editors.
Our philosophy, however, has not changed.
We continue to seek work that demonstrates originality, insight, expertise, personality, and craftsmanship — and to use our editorial judgment and publishing network to help exceptional work reach a wider audience.
Advisory Board Meetings
As our governance model has matured, the Advisory Board has transitioned from frequent operational meetings to a more strategic role.
Beginning in 2026, ABAA will normally meet once each year, with additional communication occurring as needed.
The annual meeting provides an opportunity to:
- Review the performance and direction of both publications.
- Discuss major changes within Medium and the broader publishing environment.
- Evaluate the positioning of AI Advances and AI Advances Briefs.
- Discuss editorial standards and emerging areas of AI.
- Identify strategic priorities for the coming year.
- Consider opportunities for community growth, partnerships, and outreach.
Meetings are held virtually and scheduled with consideration for members’ availability.

The Advisory Board previously met on June 6, September 14, and December 17, 2024, and February 22, 2025. As our governance structure has evolved, ABAA will now transition to an annual meeting schedule, allowing the Board to concentrate on long-term strategy while the editorial team manages the daily operations of both publications.
What began with a single publication in 2023 has grown into a broader community of writers, editors, advisors, and readers centered around a shared goal: making knowledge about artificial intelligence more accessible to everyone.
We are grateful to every Advisory Board member, editor, writer, and reader who has helped build this community.
Thank you for supporting AI Advances and AI Advances Briefs.
