Splirting is a terrible portmanteau for this concept
How to Up Your Flirting Game With Sports References
That’s not charisma, that’s a five minute major for flagrant misconduct
I have never been in a relationship in my life.
Not even once.
I think that my lack of experience in flirting can be compensated for by my endless reservoir of sports knowledge.
So, these are a few examples of how to leverage the sporting event you’re attending to get closer to that special someone.
Baseball
Wow, that guy just hit in a single! Speaking of which, I’m ready to not be single anymore. What do you think?
You get the double meaning of a single being achieved in baseball terminology, immediately followed up by no longer desiring to be single in real life.
It doesn’t get any better than that!
Hockey
I can’t believe that guy got called for tripping. That wasn’t nearly as bad as me tripping over my own words when I look at you.
Another sort of double meaning here.
The extension of the stick with intent to trip an opponent versus the stutter prompted by getting lost in those eyes.

It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
Basketball
Wow, that was one heck of a three-pointer! Reminds me of this three-point phrase I know: I like you. What do you want to do about that?
In basketball, the players will roll the dice on whether they can sink a bucket from beyond the arch to gain three points.
In life, people will roll the dice on a three-word phrase, such as “I like you” to test the waters and see where things go.
Seems like a slam dunk of a way to find out, right?
Curling
Wow, did you see how well they executed that takeout manoeuvre?! I bet I could take you out somewhere and make it into the house, too!
See, there’s the take-out shot in curling, and then there’s the concept of taking someone out on a date.
There’s also having your rock land in the house and ending up in either one of your homes at some point.
That’s what makes this one as good as a draw right to the button!
Soccer/Football
Wow, that guy’s embellishing like crazy! But do you know what I’m not embellishing…? My feelings for you.
Any sort of meta reference to the sport of soccer (or football, depending on who you ask) is the key to the heart of any fan of it.
Players in this sport are notorious for playing up otherwise insignificant actions by their opponents.
Heck, with a net that big, it’s impossible not to score a goal with a line like this.
These are just a few examples of how you can use sports to your advantage when flirting just isn’t your forte.
The real lesson here is that there’s always a way to leverage something you’re well-versed in to make it easier to get closer to someone.
Anyway, I hope this has inspired you to use these examples (or variations of them) or at least to use your creativity to help what might seem like a tricky situation.
