One Sign That Means You Should Cut Someone Off Immediately
Regardless of whether it is your family.
Society loves to tell us that we have to keep certain people in our lives no matter what. They say you have to accept someone’s behavior because you love them, because you have a long history together, because family is family, and you don’t just abandon family. They tell you to hold onto your old friends because they’ve been with you forever, as if the length of a relationship automatically makes it worth keeping.
So we keep people around who hurt us, stress us out, and drain us because we feel obligated to.
We tell ourselves that the years we’ve invested mean something, that the shared history matters more than how they make us feel now, that cutting them off would make us a bad person. And we suffer through relationships that bring us nothing but pain because we’ve been taught that loyalty means tolerating mistreatment.
But the reality is completely different. You don’t owe anyone a place in your life just because they’ve been there a long time. You don’t have to keep someone around just because you’re related to them or because you have history together. And there’s one clear sign that tells you when it’s time to let someone go, no matter who they are or how long you’ve known them.
