Here are Python Tools That Completely Changed My Workflow
The tools I’ll share in this article have completely transformed my Python development process. They’ve saved me hundreds of hours and are ones I believe every Python developer should seriously consider adopting. I’ll go through each one quickly, with practical examples along the way.
Cursor: The Best All-Round AI Code Editor
Cursor may seem like an obvious pick in 2025’s AI era, but it remains my go-to editor for almost everything I write — especially large codebases. It works across Python and many other languages.
What makes Cursor excellent is that it keeps the familiar VS Code feel while adding powerful AI agent capabilities. Unlike tools that try to generate everything for you without showing the code, Cursor lets me stay in control. I can use quick edits for small refactors (“make this cleaner”) or switch to agent mode, tag specific files, and ask it to review or modify them.
I still get full IDE features — jumping to definitions, stepping through code, and inspecting everything — while benefiting from high-quality code generation. Cursor receives constant upgrades, and I’ve spent thousands of dollars on its code generation credits. It’s the tool I use most of the time.
