Does the action create more life or reduce it? — Paul Hawken

A tomato option that people everywhere want to adopt

During the Planetary Food Ecosystem Quest at New York Climate Week, I was given the opportunity to look back from the distant future, and tell a food-related story (in 60 seconds) of events in 2026 that changed the planet for the better. Here’s my story:

Imagine yourself in a supermarket. You have two tomatoes to choose from.

Each of the two tomatoes delivers the same flavorful nutrition.

The first tomato is the “regenerative tomato.” The second tomato is the “industrial tomato.”

You have an app that tells you two things:

First, the app tells you that the pollution from growing & delivering the regenerative tomato is less than the pollution from growing & delivering the industrial tomato.

Second, the app tells you that the dollar cost of growing & delivering the regenerative tomato is less than the dollar cost of growing & delivering the industrial tomato.
