One Runaway Summer
Emptiness weighed in
“There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.”— Leonard Cohen
O’ derelict house, where summer blues fell chill,
Your long hall holds the scorch of barefoot noon,
Where unguarded feet once blistered in thrill,
Rough hewn hands nurse scuffed shoes, marooned.
Sullen the dust that drifts toward your sill,
Turns toward gauzed light, counting down hours.
Chandelier icicles fill your drawing room;
Haply those days that crayoned in flowers.
Yet even as darkness sheers through soft curtains,
When the porch swing moves without a hint of wind,
As certainty leans in, I can see the sky
Vibrating thoughts of you. Even emptiness
Insists weighing in! Call of wild at my sill,
To shut out a world in love? —
Impossible!
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”— Rumi
