What do the Yellowstone supervolcano and Mars have in common?

Frank and Helen Gould are brother and sister geophysicists working for NASA. Helen’s trip to Mars has begun while Frank works to prevent an eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano.

Read this space opera as a standalone story or catch up with the tale here:

Helen borrowed one of the station’s laptops to phone home. She used the video-phone software to call her mother and brother back on Earth. She had kissed them goodbye two months earlier when she entered the bio-isolation. She had video-phoned them many times since then. The night before the launch, she had a face to face meeting with them through a sheet of glass in the manner an incarcerated criminal talks with their family. Helen knew they had been in the VIP viewing stand for the launch, and were still in a Cocoa Beach hotel.
