Projekt Ilaiyaraaja Season III — 15/365 — Kadhal Ennum Kovil
Kazhugu (1981) is a quite a quirky movie for Tamil cinema and I am still not sure how they thought to adapt Peter Fonda’s Race with the Devil (1975) in Tamil. A road movie, Kazhugu had a cult and satanic rituals based villainy mixed with some interesting action sequences. The movie didn’t do well at eh box office but had some scintillating music from Ilaiyaraaja. The background is a treat and there is a satanic ritual sequence with afro-beats that I will post later during the theme specials.
This song is literally unnoticed in the movie but a beautiful melody with magical guitar interludes. The singer is credited as Soolamangalam Murali. He could be the son of Soolamangalam Rajalakshmi (one of the famous Soolamangalam Sisters duo).
