A Psychologist Explains How to Overcome Anxiety In Three Sentences
Once I stopped viewing anxiety as the cause of my problems and saw it as a symptom, everything changed.
“Water wouldn’t sound so beautiful without rocks in its way.” — Marcus Aurelius
Trying to manage anxiety was like trying to tame a wild bull. It was impossible, unattainable, and out of reach. Even helpless at times.
However, with enough patience and persistence, I learned to put the bull on a leash and befriend it. I then used the energy it once took to keep myself afloat and poured it into more creative pursuits like breathwork events and writing online.
Initially, I thought this was all I needed to do. My life had improved tenfold, so I was proud of myself. But as more time passed, I realised I still had the bull on a leash. It no longer ruled my life, but there was a part of my psyche that was aware of the possibility that it one day could. So I made sure to check the ropes every few hours. At all cost. Always.
This continued to take up space and energy in my subconscious mind, so I knew I had to find a way to release it once and for all. To do that, I had to go to the root of my trauma.
