Dear Loans Manager,

I am seeking financing for an innovative private educational institution. Although the business model may be unconventional, I believe the potential returns are considerable.

Rodrigo S-C’s November 2 prompt reminded me of an assignment I wrote for teacher’s college back in the day to describe my ideal school.

Re-reading that description now makes me pine for the relative simplicity of the mid-aughts, before AI and smartphones forever changed young people’s relationship to learning and to each other.

Those were the days…

In any case, my somewhat naive imagining of the perfect school still says a lot about what I think is the purpose of education, even after decades now in the classroom.

If I were to open a private school, it would, of course, be the product of my imagination, education, and real-world experience.

The ideal setting for The School of Many Curiosities would be a grand old castle or Edwardian manor house: any place which is as spacious and full of mysteries and surprises as a child’s imagination. This space would be filled…
