Temperature and humidity management is required in various industrial fields. The reasons for each field are different, but the core is the same. Let’s find out why each field is important.

Manufacturing

In the manufacturing industry, precise temperature and humidity measurements are essential to maintain product quality. For instance, in the production of pharmaceuticals, food, and electronic goods, sensitivity to environmental conditions means that changes in temperature and humidity can impact the quality and safety of the products. Particularly, some manufacturing companies must adhere to precise environmental conditions, prompting strict management of temperature and humidity.

The significance of temperature measurement in the manufacturing industry extends beyond the products themselves. Given the prevalent operation of machinery and the natural increase in electrical consumption in manufacturing, temperatures in distribution boards or switchboards tend to rise, leading to potential fire hazards under specific conditions. Fires in distribution boards and switchboards can have a broad impact on facilities and infrastructure, causing substantial property damage. Therefore, the temperature in distribution boards and switchboards must be rigorously managed to prevent such incidents.

In the field of agriculture, temperature and humidity are crucial factors influencing the growth and productivity of crops. If temperature and humidity exceed the normal range, it can directly impact the survival of crops, and during the growing season, the temperature and humidity environment can affect the growth rate and outcomes. In greenhouses, temperature variations may occur depending on the location, influencing growth rates in different zones, which can result in varying growth speeds, leading to decreased profits and additional labor requirements.

Furthermore, maintaining suitable temperature and humidity can serve as a preventive measure against pests. Adequate temperature and humidity control in agriculture is essential as it directly correlates with revenue. Therefore, it is imperative to manage temperature and humidity appropriately in the agricultural sector.

Buildings and Offices

Managing the temperature and humidity within a building has a direct impact on the quality and durability of the structure itself. Inadequate temperature and humidity control can lead to issues such as moisture or mold, adversely affecting the building’s structural stability over the long term. Additionally, it can influence the well-being of individuals residing within the building. Deviations from the optimal range in temperature and humidity can cause discomfort among occupants, and in workplaces, it can result in decreased work efficiency.

Moreover, excessive heating can lead to increased maintenance costs for facilities. Therefore, for the benefit of the building, occupants, and overall cost considerations, maintaining appropriate temperature and humidity levels is essential.

Healthcare

In hospitals or medical facilities, temperature and humidity can be directly linked to patient safety. Unlike typical offices where a similar optimal temperature and humidity apply to everyone, medical settings need to tailor their management based on the types of patients. For example, in geriatric hospitals/nursing homes, maintaining a higher temperature than usual is necessary for the safer management of the patients’ health.

Temperature and humidity control is also crucial in areas such as medication storage, operating rooms, and laboratories. For medications, many require storage conditions beyond room temperature, and drugs with low-temperature storage requirements need to be disposed of if they deviate from the appropriate temperature range. In such cases, not only measuring the temperature but also recording the measured values is important.

Operating rooms maintain lower temperatures to prevent patient infections, and laboratories require precise temperature and humidity control as experiment results can vary based on these factors. Therefore, maintaining appropriate temperature and humidity is essential in these healthcare settings.

Data Centers and Technology Industry

In data centers and technology-related industries, temperature and humidity are managed to ensure the stable operation of electronic devices. With recent advancements in information technology, server usage has been consistently increasing. These high-performance servers generate significant heat due to their high power consumption. Given the characteristic heat generation of electronic devices, performance degradation occurs as temperatures rise, and prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to malfunctions. Therefore, temperature and humidity measurements are necessary, and corresponding adequate cooling is essential.

In other words, the reason temperature and humidity management is crucial across various industrial sectors is to uphold productivity, safety, product quality, environmental safety, and cost-effectiveness in each respective field. Furthermore, appropriate control of temperature and humidity can enhance performance and efficiency within those sectors. However, it is not necessary to measure temperature and humidity in the same way and frequency in all fields and locations. Depending on the situation, it can be divided into wired or wireless methods, and the measurement interval can vary from seconds to more than 5 or 30 minutes. Additionally, the temperature range can vary from a general range of -20°C to 70°C to temperatures below -200°C or above 500°C. As a result, administrators need to carefully select the type of sensors and systems based on their needs when measuring temperature and humidity.
