Mod is an add-on that changes how Claude Code looks and behaves. Mods work in both Claude Code for CLI (in a terminal window) and Claude Code for Desktop (in the Code tab).

Mods are particularly useful when you want to add new UI elements to Claude Code. For example, I’ve created a dedicated panel above the prompt input field that displays key session performance indicators.
