Naomi Miguel
Professional Staff, House Committee on Natural Resources — Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States
My Bio:
A Native American woman Congressional staffer from the Tohono O’odham Nation working on Indigenous issues. With my education and Congressional experience, I would like to bring to light the issues Native women and youth face. In my free time, I enjoys reading, listening to live music, viewing art museums, and playing my alto-saxophone.
What inspired you to get involved in public service?

My family — mostly my grandfather, a former tribal chairman of my tribe the Tohono O’odham Nation and the intergovernmental dynamics I experienced growing up on the reservation.
Name one person you look up to and explain why.
My mom, a single mother — No matter what she always encouraged me to dream big by saying “the sky is the limit.”
What is one hope that you have for the future? Or what is one piece of advice that you would like to share?
I hope one day we have an educated Congressional electorate with appropriate knowledge of the Federal trust responsibility and Indigenous issues.
My advice is: you get more bees with honey than with vinegar.
