Stop Looking for Shortcuts and Magical Rescues

In the months after my business crashed in 2012, I prayed and manifested with all of the faith and consistency I could muster for a way out. I wasn’t picky.
I would’ve been happy with a winning lottery ticket, a surprise inheritance from a relative I didn’t know very well, a viral post that somehow led to an incredible career, anything that would deliver me enough money to get out of debt and not have to check my bank balance before buying a gallon of milk.
Nothing came of all of my magical thinking, or at least nothing as grand as I was hoping for. Eventually, I stopped chasing get-rich-quick schemes and refused to pursue any more shortcuts. I did this not because I had become wise, but because I couldn’t handle any more disappointment.
So many of us are desperate. I don’t blame you for your desperation. I don’t blame past me, either. We live in desperate times. The fact that we live in desperate times is all the more reason why we must stop looking for shortcuts or supernatural escape routes.
The only way out of your problems is to go through them. Any effort you waste on too-good-to-be-true courses and coaching puts you that much further behind.
