Two maybes for my large, sadly underserved demographic
Why are so many movies so balls banging brutal? Explosively angry and negotiation lite. I mean mean. Characters I avoid having anything to do with in physical reality take up far too much screen time.
How come so much hostility hits the big screen? Are so many so pissed off they pay to watch actors pretending to be pissed off while splashing blood packs? Apparently so.
My demographic of more gentle souls doesn’t just volunteer at critter shelters or give away casseroles. We go to the movies alone and together. Lots of us want to text, Hey. Wanna go see _______? But we don’t because we had just scrolled the local theater’s menu. A text was never sent and two — or two hundred thousand — tickets went unsold along with half a mil in popcorn.
I like a good movie and LOVE the greats. So do many friends who are retired, single, and/or empty nesters. We’re fairly well educated, aren’t snooty-art-house-exclusive types and can regularly spend a few escapist hours at a matinee.
We want worthwhile, well written, ultimately feel good stories on a big screen with extra butter. Lively chuckles are a bonus. Cynical snarfs work, too.
