NAZA: Israel is losing the only war that really matters
You can win every battle on the ground, but there is a weapon that destroys you without making a sound.
15.
That is the number of civilians it was “acceptable” to kill alongside a single target. The so-called “collateral casualties.” The people saying this are Israeli intelligence officers and soldiers (or people presented as such), filmed at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, with their faces and voices disguised. Then the number rises to 20, and later to 100. Towards the end, they mention 500 collateral casualties: 500 Naza, precisely.
Put like that, as bare numbers, it takes your breath away. I felt it too, sitting in the dark in a packed cinema, and I have never hidden my sympathy for Israel (and its right to defend itself, including by force). That was exactly why I was there. As a child, I was lucky enough to attend a private elementary school run by Catholic nuns. I remember being about 10 when a teacher told us to read every news story in as many newspapers as possible: if you always drink from the same well, you will never find out whether it is poisoned. Learning about different points of view is essential, at least if you want to form an opinion. Decades later, I still follow that rule.
