Make Chrome your default browser

When you set Chrome as your default browser, links open automatically in Chrome.

In some countries, you may be asked to choose your default browser. You can change your default browser anytime.

Windows 11

  1. On your computer, select Start .
  2. Select Settings Settings and then Apps and then Default apps.
  3. Under "Set defaults for applications," in the search box, enter Chrome.
  4. Select Google Chrome.
  5. At the top, next to "Make Google Chrome your default browser," select Set default.
    • To make sure the change is applied to the correct file types, review the list under the "Set default file types or link types."

Windows 10

  1. On your computer, select Start Start menu.
  2. Select Settings Settings.
  3. Open your default apps:
    • Original version: Select System and then Default apps.
    • Creators Update: Select Apps and then Default apps.
  4. At the bottom, under "Web browser," select your current browser.
  5. In the "Choose an app" window, select Google Chrome.
