Reminders to move

What's a Fitbit reminder to move?

Stay active during the day with an hourly activity goal and reminders to move.

A reminder to move is a notification that cues you to walk at least 250 steps per hour to help you meet your hourly activity goal. If you haven’t walked 250 steps, the reminder appears on your device at 10 minutes before the hour (for example, at 10:50 a.m.) and causes your device to vibrate.

What's my hourly activity goal on my Fitbit device?

To start, your hourly activity goal is to take at least 250 steps per hour (which equals a few minutes of walking) from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., 7 days a week. You can adjust the hours that you track your goal and receive reminders to move.

Note that activities that don’t include steps, such as spinning, won’t count toward your goal. If you miss your goal, you can’t make it up by taking extra steps the next hour.

To change your goal, see Track your health and fitness goals with Google Health.

Why do I have an hourly activity goal on my Fitbit device?

Research shows that sitting for long periods of time is linked with a higher risk of health issues, including obesity, increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, and abnormal cholesterol levels (source). Even if you meet daily exercise guidelines, extended sitting can impact your health (source). Moving a few minutes every hour can help to reduce the negative effects of sitting (source).
